Living in and Loathing Las Vegas! (very long)

"Point missed. If you DO want to be in or around casinos, then Vegas might be
the WORST POSSIBLE CHOICE. Vegas is best taken in small, intermittent doses. If
you move here, the casinos will take over your life. It WILL happen."

How can anyone disagree with this statement? ANYONE.....

Those evil casinos cant take anything you dont give them.

I have a free will that I exersize to my best intrest inside and
outside the casino.

In the last 5 years I have used that free will and a limited
amount of intellegence to extract tens of thousands of dollars from
the LV casinos. I have done this playing a small number of positive
expected value games. Games such as Video Poker Live Poker and Black
Jack. I have used that same free will and years of training in the
skilled trades to make hundreds of thousands of dollars from casino
building projects.

I feel sorry for those compulsivly drawn to the casinos and unable
to controll themselves in regard to them. If you are that type of
person I think you need to stay away from them totally. Not just
small doses, no doses.

I know many people who live In Las Vegas that rarely if ever go
into ANY gambling establishment. My wife is one of them. the only
reason she goes to a casino is to enjoy a free show or high end
dinner comp.

So obviously your statement is a exaggeration at best and a out
right falsehood at worst. Most probably it is one mans opinion
stated as a fact.

Since moving to LV, My wife and I have never been paid greater
wages or enjoyed a greater standard of living. We have never had so
much money in savings or in investment accounts. Our real estate
equity has never been larger. Simply put we have never been more
financially secure than we are now.

Moving to Las Vegas has been one of the most rewarding decisions I
have made in my entire life. I live in a beautiful house that is
increasing in value beyond my expectation and enjoy close
relationships with some good friends (those inside and outside of
the casino environment) and many neighbors. It is one decisions I am
glad I made nearly every day.

I do even better than that-- as many do -- BECAUSE I don't live in LV. I
suspect you're near-dream story is isolated, and congratulations if you have
the discipline to make a success of it all. There are exceptions to everything,
and the point I believe Kevin was making is that most people don't find shangra-
la in LV. I agree with that based on the many, many people I know who
currently live there and those who just couldn't make it. The biggest complaint
was the wages. I know there's nothing there for me at my level...or my wife's
for that matter. I've read where in the casino industry if you're not one of
the top 2 executives in the hotel, you're struggling. And even then, the jobs
are very insecure. Loyalty is non-existent, and the industry is back-stabbing
at best. That's one of the reasons it doesn't pain me in the least when I win
their money. But in my case, i'm always happiest on my way out of town.

To everyone who lives in Las Vegas and is happy -- I'm happy for you.
To everyone who lives else where and is happy -- I'm happy for you.
Lets play video poker shall we! I like a good machine anywhere.
