I'll try and give a short version.
Several years ago (I'll guess fall of 1996) Casino Morongo near Indio CA
decided to return around $1,000,000 of escrowed winnings from blackjack
profits they had collected while acting as banker (they weren't allowed to
bank games). On a Thursday the word got out (via Stanford Wong etc.) that
on the next day (Friday 13th) CM would pay 3/2 on all 13's as well as
BJ's - starting at 5:00 PM until the escrowed winnings were gone.
I was recruited by some friends on a BJ team to participate. We got there
around noon and the place was mobbed with pros etc from all over the world,
and had been mobbed since Thursday night. They normally ran a handful of
tables but they had around 50 tables going (CM raked either 50c or $1 per
hand) with people about 5 deep trying to get a seat before 5:00 PM. SW was
there and I saw a lot of internet friends from all over.
IIRC they had $500 limit tables and $100 limit tables. I tripped some little
old ladies etc., and finally got a seat on a $500 limit table, lost a little
money (who cared) and then learned that they decided to exclude the $500 tables
from the promotion. People were paying seatholders to give up their seats (I
know of several $100 payments), and the only sellers were locals, who didn't
seem too enthused about the promotion. Some how I got a seat (without paying
for it) on a $100 table, and lost some more money for a couple of hours. At
about 4:45 PM an announcement over the speaker system informed everyone that
CM had decided to postpone the promotion until a later date.
The casino cleared out in about 5 minutes and the parking lot which had been
full was suddenly empty.
CM made a lot of money on the rake on the increased number of tables, and I
understand that they eventually returned the money to locals slowly and
secretively over a period of time.

Sounds like (for you at least) you didn't win any money? I guess some
people must have? Maybe goes to show that just because expectation is
positive, it doesn't always work out that way?
