Linda writes: It's frustrating to argue with somebody that has never
written a video poker book (both Dan and Jean have), has never written
strategy cards on his own and that tells you not to bother checking his
cards because it's impossible since he doesn't tell you how to play all
dealt hands.
BD replies: I've never written a video poker book? Have you never heard
of "Million Dollar Video Poker", "Sex, Lies, and Video Poker," and "More
Sex, Lies, and Video Poker?" You never heard of the three strategy
reports (one on Jacks or Better) published solely by me in 1996? The
level 4 strategy tells you how to play every dealt hand. You cannot name
one hand that isn't played properly by the Dancer/Daily card 9/6 Jacks
or Better card. I can list thousands on yours that aren't played
properly. While it is true that the Winner's Guides were a joint project
with Liam W. Daily, I was a major participant in the process of creating
this book. There have been no other video poker books dedicating more
than a few pages to 9/6 Jacks or Better. The Winner's Guide for that
game is 128 pages long. Obtaining the knowledge to create such volumes
requires a very high level of expertise, whether or not you choose to
acknowledge or respect that expertise. Any player serious about
mastering that game should study that Winner's Guide. (Clearly you
should too before you rewrite your own strategies).
Linda wrote: I'm really sorry I didn't ignore his malicious/untrue
comments, but my publishing house Square One has a stake in this.
BD replies: I don't believe that I've written one malicious or untrue
comment concerning you or your strategies. I've calmly pointed out time
after time the errors you have made. You are the one who continues to
make inflammatory remarks.
Linda wrote: I really would like to end this discussion, but Bob never
lets anything drop.
BD replies: You're suggesting that I've posted more on this than you
have? Really? You might want to go back and count emails.
In another post Linda writes: I really did fall into Bob's trap and
should have ignored him--it's 100% impossible to win an endless
argument.
BD replies: It's not impossible to look at 9 hands. It should take you
less than 10 minutes to check each of them against your strategy and
each of them on WinPoker, or any other software you like. Instead you
keep spending more time than that trying to not answer the simple
questions posed to you.
In another post Linda writes: Are you stating that Dean Zamzow checked
your strategy cards using an algorithm and found the percent to be
99.54390% accurate? Are you further stating that Dean Zamzow checked my
cards as well using an algorithm and found them to be 99.2% accurate?
Bob, is this what you are now saying?
BD replies: Boy you ramble. I've never asked Dean to check my strategy
cards. If you want to do this, go right ahead. I'm telling you that this
is a simple game and that enough people have checked my work that I'm
confident that it's accurate. If you don't want to accept that, try and
find (or have one of your admirers try to find) one case on the Level 4
Dancer/Daily 9/6 Jacks or Better strategy that is imperfect. You won't
be able to do this.
Linda continues: If you're using an "estimate"--I noticed you rounded
mine to the nearest tenth of a percent and your own to the nearest
hundred thousandth of a percent--are you saying somebody ran a check of
every dealt hand and these are their results?
BD replies: Yes 99.2% is an estimate. Your strategy misplays many
thousand hands. I've identified the hand types for the major errors, but
there are many related combinations. When your strategy says to hold the
J by itself from 'JT'xxx, there are thousands of hands that are
misplayed. If you wish to have them summarized and added up with the
total size of the error for this one error-type alone, I can manually do
that. It's not difficult. But then there are thousands more with 'QT'
hands that you misplay and 'KT' and various other hands that I've
identified. Adding up all of your errors would be tedious. I suspect
that 99.2% is more likely to be charitable towards you than not. It
wouldn't surprise me that the real number is lower than that.
Linda continues: Bob, who exactly checked every dealt hand on my cards
and on yours and came up with these results?
BD replies: So far as I know, nobody has checked your strategies closely
before I did. If they had, they would have been appalled as well as I
was. You told us that you had experts check your strategies before they
were published. Are these experts members of vpFREE? Perhaps they can
help you defend your work.
Insofar as checking the Dancer/Daily results, many, many hours of
checking (and reformatting and revising and reformatting and checking
again) were done by Daily and me before they were produced. After
publication, these cards have been in use by professional video poker
players for years. Thousands of players have used these cards while
practicing with WinPoker or other computer program. If you set the "hard
hands" feature on WinPoker to, say, 0.02 coins, you'll get just the
really close plays. Any hand that is misplayed will show up easily.
You keep referring to 2.6 million hands. In actuality there are slightly
more than 130,000 unique hands, counting 33344 has one hand rather than
the 24 different, equivalent, combinations that make up this particular
full house. Far more than this number have actually be tested against
the Dancer/Daily strategy. It is perfect, whether you want to accept it
or not. The reason I use the several-digit accuracy is because that what
perfect 9/6 Jacks returns.
If an error on the Dancer/Daily strategy came to Dan Paymar's or Jean
Scott's attention that either they or their friends discovered, don't
you think they or one of their friends would trumpet it? But they
haven't. That should be a pretty strong indicator that the strategies
are accurate. You yourself haven't been able to list one error. If
you're truly an expert, shouldn't you be able to find any errors that
exist? I consider myself an expert and I can identify thousands of
misplayed hands in your strategy.
