I don't have a copy of the magazine yet--if anybody does please let me know if the typo on the pay table is correct. Linda

Linda, thanks so much for passing along the "free" subscription info
and for getting your articles posted to the list.

I'm wondering if there was a "lost in translation" moment perhaps
due to the magazine's editing in the paragraph of Tip #1. The final
sentence reads:

"If you're dealt three high cards and one is an ace, then hold the
two non-ace high cards."

Doublechecking your book, as well as the Strategy Card for 9/6 JoB,
that piece of advice seems to be worded a bit differently. In the
section for High Cards, point #3 on the strategy card reads:

"3. If three unsuited high cards, including an Ace, hold two non-
Ace high cards."

If I were a complete novice [instead of a seasoned VP veteran of 2
whole months ;)] the text in the article might make me think that
if I were dealt, say, Ad, Qd, Jd, 2h, 5s - that I should drop the
Ace along with the 2 & the 5.

True, and there's a major strategy error in the first rule where
you say that if you're dealt three high cards and one is an ace, then
hold the two non-ace high cards. That is only a good rule if the word
"unsuited" is included. Also in the first rule, you say that three to a
straight flush is "different", but you never define what it is better
than.

Also, if the list is truly intended for beginners, you need to
define "high cards." Even though I define it in my classes, I get some
players thinking that tens are high cards --- which is easily corrected
if and when they speak up. If you DON'T define the term, presumably more
players will have that misconception.
