Limit Cell Phone Use In Casino ?

Howdy

How often are we distracted by a lengthy cell phone conversation while we
try to concentrate on our VP play? I can understand a received emergency call
or someone calling a loved one to announce their jackpot hit. But turning
your seat into a phone booth is uncalled for.

I would like to see a posted sign requesting the patron to temporarily
leave their playing area to converse so as not to disturb their fellow players.

Banning cell phones I think would be unrealistic.

What are your thoughts?

Although I dispise people using cellphones in restaurants I've not
been bothered yet by someone doing it at a VP machine -- but i'm sure
my time will come

Live poker is another story. That anoys me. But thankfully in most
rooms (but not all) you can't be on a cell phone at the table.

I'll tell you what bothers me the most at VP -- someone next to me
slapping the buttons, especially if they're yelling at the machine
every hand, and even more so if they're playing Caveman Keno and the
volume is turned up a little too high! ARRRRR!

As long as people are allowed to smoke in public, which is far more
intrusive than engaging in a telephone conversation, I doubt that
you'll see a cell phone usage ban anytime soon. I share your sentiment
that in general, not just in this particular setting, people should
not be allowed to engage in self-indulgent behavior that affects the
enjoyment of others. However, Nevada has always been, culturally,
a "let it hang out" state, reluctant to curb people's antisocial
behavior, in no small part because what keeps Nevada ticking is that
selfsame antisocial behavior.

I would just start a LOUD, animated conversation with my constant
companion, Pooky the Invisible Wolverine, commenting on each and every
hand and its outcome until Cell Phone Person went elsewhere. Fight
fire with fire.

I can usually tune out other conversations around me while I'm
playing VP, even cell phone conversations. It's strangers who want
to carry on a running conversation with ME that cause me problems.
And I'm not talking about someone who says "good one" when I get a
quad or some other nice hand, or even a novice who asks a question
about the operation of their machine. I'm talking about someone who
hangs around for 15 or 20 minutes, not playing at all, but carrying
on a continuously running chatter about my play. I was recently
playing a 10 play machine when this old Asian lady sits down next to
me and starts asking "You win?" after every single hand. This goes
on for hand after hand after hand after hand after hand....
She would also call out the wrong cards, which I found VERY
distracting. For example, if I was dealt AQJxx unsuited, and the
correct hold was QJ, she would say "Aces, come on aces!" while I was
trying to pick the correct cards. One time I had to stop and feed
the machine a few more hundred dollars, and she said "Oh - my -
god!!!", like she couldn't believe someone would waste so much money
on a VP machine. Then back to "You win?" after the next hand. I
tried to completely ignore her, but she JUST WOULDN'T LEAVE.
Grrrrrr. Finally I couldn't stand it anymore. I had to cash out and
walk around some until she left the vicinity.
Don't these people have a life?
