Took the wife (a hopeless Beatlemaniac) to "Love" at the Mirage Friday for her birthday; I'll give it a solid B+.
Might have liked it more but for our neighbors: a middle-aged woman who insisted on giving a running commentary and explanation to her hard-of-hearing mother, raising her voice as necessary to be heard over the music, despite numerous requests that she "shush!", "please be quiet", "shut up!", and "for God's sake, shut the hell up!" Hard to get into a groovy state of mind when you're livid.
Anyway, as previously noted, there weren't as many "wow" moments as in your typical Cirque show, although the mini-trampoline guys were amazing. More dancing, less acrobatics. Sort of a Celine/Cirque hybrid. Lots of bungee-cording aerials, and bonus points for originality: a lot of amazing visuals and terrific sound system. Minor complaints: The clowns were lame. The canned bits by the fab four themselves, while endearing, dragged things to a near halt. Pre-show entertainment was pretty much non-existent: what's up with the ladder that slowly ascends and decends? Zepplin had a "stairway to heaven", but I don't recall the Beatles having any sort of "ladder to the rafters".
But, quibbles aside, if you liked the other Cirque shows, you'll probably like this one. It's brand new, and is bound to improve. As I see 'em:
Mystere: A+
O: A+
Ka: A-
Zumanity: C-
Le Reve: A
Love: B+
