Let the closings begin...Resorts Tunica to be shuttered by the end of the month

I just heard from my Tunica source that Resorts is closing up shop
within a couple weeks. I expect this to be the first of many across
the country. Resorts has been a very good play until the past sixty
days so no big loss. Tunica is now pretty much a wasteland...

Not terribly surprised. Though their VP was decent, the place was
pretty much deserted by Tunica standards. They bombard my mailbox with
giveaways and promotions despite my very limited play there (losing
helped, I'm sure), including comp rooms on weekends. The buffet is
anemic at best, despite the one-buck deal. Staff - what little there
is - is not as friendly as elsewhere. In short, there is little to
distinguish Resorts from the competition. And with its position as the
farthest location away from Memphis and one of the smallest casinos in
the market (maybe *the* smallest), I suppose closure in these
difficult times is inevitable.

This particular location seems to be jinxed. It started as the
Southern Belle, an independent which went belly up. Then Harrah's took
it over, briefly running two casinos within eyesight of each other
before selling the original Harrah's to Isle of Capri. Then Harrah's
unloaded this one as part of the purchase of Park Place (Horseshoe and
Grand). Maybe someone should tear it down and start over, but that's
not likely in this financial atmosphere.
