leaving a machine - a true story

If I am asked to watch a machine by a person I don't know, I will flat
out politely tell them "No". I refuse to take responsibility for your
machine and property. Remember, you are taking responsibility for
their property if you say "Yes". I further tell them that any casino
personal(attendants, cleaning people, sometimes security) are usually
more that happy to watch their machine for them. Likewise it would be
stupid for me to trust someone I don't know with my property.

This should work - and if they aren't happy with that, there are a couple of "excuses" for "being that way" that are plausible: (1) A friend is coming down to meet me, I'm not sure how soon - could be any second, could be an hour -- and when they get here, we're going to eat, (2) I just don't know when I'm going to quit, could be any second... , (3) When I'm playing, I have very poor peripheral vision and don't pay good attention to what's going on around me, so I just can't promise you that I'd notice someone new sitting down there, (4) I hate to tell people that they can't play an empty machine.

I'm sure there are others. If your true reason is socially acceptable, such as (5) I don't want to accept responsibility for a stranger's money / machine / game / life, go with that; if not, tell the "white lie". No need to be rude, and suggesting they use a slot person to watch their machine is a nice way to say "I'd like to help you out with your problem, but just not personally".

Incidentally, are all the rest of you able to FIND a slot person that easily when you want one? I have trouble when I put on the "call" light and spend all my time looking around for one - e.g., when I try to print my ticket and it jams or is out of paper - or other machine problems. When they're busy, you can't even get your hand pays promptly, so I have trouble envisioning "get a slot person" as a practical solution to a bathroom call unless you planned it ahead several minutes (or however much time you need).
