Learning more about video poker

I've been playing video poker for 15 years. I joined this group in
order to learn more about video poker after losing quite a bit of
money. However, after reading the postings for about 4 months I find
it very disheartening because all I've heard is criticism and people
trying to sell their products.I thought sharks were vicious but
never have I heard such criticism.

I did pick up Linda Boyd's book at Barnes and Noble and I can not
tell you what a surprise it was to get strategy cards free in the
back of the book. The cards are perforated so you can put them in
your wallet and take them to the casino with you.And voila,I started
winning and playing the correct machines.I gave the strategy cards
to my granddaughter when I was in Las Vegas and she won also. They
were easy for both of us. I know that I'm going to get a lot of
criticism for posting this because it is not from the in crowd that
always posts.

I had seen other strategy cards on one sheet from the gentleman
playing next to me in Las Vegas. He had a particularly hard hand and
pulled out this long long sheet, but could not find his hand. I
stopped playing to help him. Most casinos are very dark and neither
one of us could find any of the hands we wanted. Lindas are easy to
read and use. Whats more, they are free when you buy the book.

I really enjoyed reading the post from the casino host and his tips,
but Jean criticisized him to the point that he will never post
again. Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought this group was to help and
inform people who love to play video poker. Not to sell products or
tear other people down that try to help and inform. I don't think I
will be reading many more posts because they are from the same
people saying the same thing.

Let me see if I understand.
1. You joined our group.
2. You received some good advice.
3. That led you to buying a recommended book.
4. You liked the book.
5. Some people on the internet are a little bitchy.
6. You are now thinking of leaving this group because of number 5.
7. If you think the group here is tough, you haven't been around the internet too much .

If somebody puts up a statement or information that has an error in it, that error will be pointed out, don't read so much into all the responses.
Try skipping the posts from the people that offend your sensibilities.

All the best
A.P.

They are not free.....they are included in the price
of the book.Just like you don't "free" long distance
with cell phone plans.

Hey, having a bit of a bad day are we? There is a lot to glean from this site - your computer does have a delete key, no?

Umm.............was the book free? There is plenty of help on this site, unless of course you are trying to invite a pro to live with you. Do you ever pay for advice on any other topics? Does your doctor answer email - for free?

There really isn't a mean bone in Jeans body. She has helped countless people - for free - for years, myself included. She gives away show tickets she can't use - for free, and will answer any question you might have. A host on this site? I know there is a slot director here, but you wouldn't need to read his stuff, you have your winning cards.

AP, you forgot #8, which is, "sometimes the board suffers from
trollitis." It's been pretty trolladelic this week on VPFree. What's
embarrassing is that they're not even good trolls, and if I were a
betting man, I'd say quite a few of the trolls came from the same IP
login.

My comments largely echo what's already been said, but here's my two
cents all the same.

In addition to current postings, there's a vast resource represented
by the archive online. If, between the two, you don't find something
of value, then clearly this group isn't for you. "One man's medicine
...", you know?

------

Bluntly, I'll agree that the general tone here the last few weeks has
been uncomfortably negative. Historically the atmosphere has been one
in which both the experienced and novice share their insights and
learn from each other.

However, recently there's been a growing influx of new members who's
agenda seems to be to spout, occasionally with some inaccuracy, their
perceptions and views without any demonstrated desire to engage in a
give and take from which they carry away more than what they came
with. Some betray an uncomfortable arrogance in outright rejecting
information shared by those with far more demonstrated practical
experience.

In any venue, a good measure of humility goes far in yielding a
conducive exploration of the facts. You don't need to accept at face
value what other's put out. However, if you demonstrate a good
listening it's my experience that the strongest voices will carefully
consider what you have to say in return. I've seldom come away
unsatisfied when looking for a better grasp of a topic.

------

You've clearly segregated yourself in your mind from the active
posters. That's unfortunate, for I'd expect that you have some keen
experience and perspectives to share. All I can say is that if you
participate here in the same amicable manner that you likely exhibit
with your next door neighbor (whether at home or at a machine), you'll
engender comparable regard.

------

You touch on strategy cards. Those included in Linda Boyd's are a
fine resource. There are other strong products out there. Some
benefit from alternative notations that some find more practical --
some of those require a little time to become accustomed to. Others
are prelaminated, ensuring that they'll hold up over time (those that
aren't, you can laminate yourself, of course).

Strategy cards that can be generated via programs such as Scott's
Frugal Video Poker benefit from the fact that you may develop a
strategy for ANY paytable (outside of a limited number of more obscure
vp versions). This feature is extraordinarily valuable when
approaching a progressive machine.

------

I can't say definitively that this group will benefit you personally.
I can merely suggest that there's tremendous value that's worth
exploring further before dismissing it.
