Hi!

Is a rent car the best way to visit Laughlin from LV?

Are other convenient alternatives available? (I realize
that "convenient" is usually in the eyes of the beholder.)

We have 5 comp'ed nights at one of the Harrah's properties on the
strip, but with the devastation that has taken place at the Harrah's
properties in LV, I am thnking that this may be a good time to visit
Laughlin.

Are you going to spend the night? Going solo?

There are turn-around daytrips that give you a few hours. Look in the Vegas
magazines (What's On, etc) for the tours. There are $35/head one-way shuttles.

Driving Vegas to Laughlin can be a fun trip with possible casino-hopping and
sight-seeing. The quick way is out I-515 through Henderson, Railroad Pass
casino and head south. The road (95) is alot safer now after the widening and
upgrading. You climb up to 3500 ft in elevation at Searchlight. The Nugget
casino in Searchlight makes for a fun pitstop. You then fall to 500 feet on the
river.

Also, a longer sceinic route out of Vegas is I-15 south out past Siverton,
South Point, Jean and Primm casinos. A few miles into California you head east
on the Joshua Tree Highway that crosses the tracks in Nipton. You end up
running into the Nugget casino in Searchlight. My understanding !-15 is under
construction so this might not be the play at this time.

I do the loop. Going each way for fun.

We looped south through AZ and then west on historic route 66, Oatman and
Bullhead City a while back. The mountainous bit of the old road and Oatman
was the fun bit of that trip. I've never taken one of the busses, but my
wife describes a bus ride to Laughlin where they stopped at a marshmallow
factory enroute. I thought she was kidding at first. Classic.

Hey! Thank you so much. This is good advice.

There would be 4 of us going, probably just for a long day to have a "look-see" as to what
is there. The casino hopping sounds good, too. Right now, I am just getting some facts.
It will be a "seat of the pants" thing, no matter what we decide to do.

I would also recommend making the loop route. The drive through
Nipton and the Joshua Trees is spectacular. This route is a little
longer, but worth the trip. The construction on I-15 should not be a
problem in this area. Also, if you leave in the morning (after
coffee) your bladder will be singing to you by the time you arrive in
Searchlight. There is a Terribles and the Nugget in Searchlight. They
used to have the famous dime coffee at the dinner in the Nugget. I am
not sure they still have that, but they are the nicest people in that
place, and cheap food.

I remember stopping in there for a breakfast that cost me about $6.75
for two of us. While my wife was powdering her nose, I stuck a
quarter (my change from paying the bill) in a slot machine by the
door. I hit a $20 payout, and felt just terrible. I really didn't
want to take the money from those nice people.
