Laughlin/Vegas Trip Report

Hi Gang:
Hedy and I are sitting here in New York watching a blizzard-like snowstorm
create havoc in the metropolitan area, thanking our lucky stars that we
flew in two days ago from Laughlin after our five-night trip to that southern
Nevada city and Las Vegas.
We took two friends on the Allegiant Air junket, staying three nights at
Harrah's Laughlin and two nights in Vegas. We put up our friends, who had
never been in Vegas, at Caesars Palace while we stayed at the Venetian and we
have to say that we were a bit disappointed by the room at the "V." It was
spacious enough, a nice split-level suite, but there wasn't adequate
lighting (we love bright) and it was the first hotel room we've ever been in
that didn't have drawers, just a bunch of shelves. To us, it didn't compare to
the Augustus Tower rooms we got for our friends at CP.
While in Vegas, we saw the Donny and Marie show at the Flamingo and
absolutely loved it. The show was high-energy all the way and the singing talents
of the brother-sister team (especially Marie) were amazing. Marie, who
looked great, by the way, came out into the audience on several occasions,
planting kisses on the heads of bald men, and I have to say that I did enjoy
it when she planted a big one on my follicley-challenged dome. The same
night we got our friends tickets for Legends in Concert and Jubilee and they
raved about both shows.
On the gambling side, we had a rough go of it the first day in Laughlin,
dropping a substantial amount of money playing 9/7/5 DB at the 50-cent
level. We just couldn't hit any bonus quads and were bummed out to find that the
$1 NSU in the high limit area had been downgraded and the 50-play
nickel/dime machines still were missing 9/6 JOB.
Things turned around in Vegas, however, when we spent an afternoon at
South Point before having dinner in its Silverado Steakhouse. Hedy made a
splash almost immediately as she aces with a 5X multiplier on Super Times Pay
for $1,000. Meanwhile I had a terrific run on $1 9/6 Bonus Poker Deluxe,
hitting eight quads at $400 each.
Sunday morning we celebrated our friend's 60th birthday with a nice
breakfast get-together at the Augustus Cafe and then hit the road for the drive
back to Laughlin. Our host there got us tickets for their Super Bowl party
and we enjoyed some tasty treats while watching the game in their Fiesta
Showroom.
After the party we gave the 9/7 DB machines another go and got lucky as I
hit aces (for the first time on the trip) for $400 and Hedy put the icing
on the cake with a $2G royal in diamonds, pulling the J-K to a Q-10-A draw.
We stopped playing at the point, paid off the majority of our markers and
were happy that we had reduced our loss to a moderate one at the last minute
again.
Weather permitting, we'll be back in AC at Harrah's this weekend hoping to
continue the good karma we had Sunday night in Laughlin.
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy
