I saw rooms at the top of CB casino or is that the captains quarters? You
mentioned

some good rooms at the Pioneer, how do you tell or do you have a list? Have
they
improved the ventilation?

Don't you hate it when a casino not only takes out the smoke, but the good

vp too?

Actually the Edgewater and Colorado Belle run separate marketing programs. I
just think the rooms I have stayed in look similiar. The walk-in shower is
the main link. Others on this board are more familiar with the rooms in the
various towers.

EW has an old wing and two towers (Monteray and Sedona?). CB has their tower
and "Boat" rooms. Maybe we can get Hamstockman, Jigger and others to comment?

Both houses have plenty of decent VP, but EW has been slowly picking at their
inventory. The last downgrade I noticed was in the Sports Bar, where the
best quarter game is down to 8/5 Bonus/progressive royal.

As far as the Pioneer the casino still is a smoky experience. The rooms are
in three different buildings. The one by the CB is three stories, but has an
elevator. I have not stayed back there for awhile. They have pet rooms on
the north side.

Pioneer calls most of the other rooms "Deluxe" and "Riverview?" and charges
more to cash customers. I sort of have an in with the daytime front desk gal.
A few years ago Golden Nugget used to give away turkeys in November as a
promotion. This led to the "Butterball Bribe" instead of the "Twenty Dollar
Trick". This gal got one of my birds for a couple of years. Yep the esteemed
Golden Nugget had a reefer truck parked out front and gave you frozen birds (limit
two).

So when I use my "Getaway Nights" the "2003 Employee of the Year" sees that I
am coming in and blocks me off a preferred room (usually vacant) and I can
get into the room early. So I usually get a room overlooking the pool or on the
backside of the building that faces the river.

They have updated the bathrooms, put in coffee, changed out the AC units,
upgraded the mattresses and in some experimented with vertical blinds. I really
like these blinds since it improves the daytime lighting.

The Pioneer rooms will not impress alot of folks, but I like the set-up and
location. I know that when I put through my $1k+ coin-in I can easily book
next trip using my Getaway Nights. Besides Mom hit her first royal in the
Pioneer several years ago. I was using the facilities though when she held one card
and filled.

Not only do the EW and CB run separate marketing programs, they also
have separate hotels. However, I have not found a great deal of
difference in the "decor" of either place. Dark seems to be the theme
in both places. I have been staying at the CB more lately, and the
big improvement has been the addition of coffee makers and small
refrigerators in all the rooms. I believe that is also true at the
EW, but I may be mistaken. The rooms at the top of the casino that
you mentioned are called the boat rooms. They try to get an extra
$5/night for those, but it seems to be an easy upgrade to obtain. The
big advantage of these rooms is that it is an easy stagger from the
boiler room to the hotel room. sidenote: Anyone else think the brews
at the BR have ampted up alcohol content?

Most of the time they will put you in the rooms that surround the
pool. Many people have commented about the long walk from these rooms
at the CB. It is true that if you get one on the north side it can be
a long walk to the casino or river walk. I have also stayed in the
riverview rooms. They try to charge an extra $10/night for these
rooms. They gave me a room below the walkway onetime. I didn't even
know at the time they there was anything down there. Anyway, it took
me forever to navigate to that room. The view was good, but difficult
to get to it.

I have stayed at the EW many times also, and the rooms in the old
section are a bit smaller. I will be trying out the spa suites at the
EW soon. I won the online drawing at the EW, and received a 2 nite
stay in the spa suite and $200 in dining credits. I got to use it
before Oct. 31st, so I can let you know about these rooms before your
snowbird stay.
