The Regency might not be quite dead yet. I did not get to go in and look
around but there were hours posted on the riverwalk door. Weekdays- 1p-11p,
weekends 11am-midnight.
On my nourthbound walkabout I made it down to the Riverside one morning to
put on a couple of points on my card. I still have $23 in mystery comps to
protect. Wow, they really spruced up a couple of bars! The Pit bar (mid-casino)
has ten play stations now with new flat screens. Nothing to play from my
limited survey, but it would be a nice place just to have a cocktail with its
people watching location.
The Main (river) bar looked great too. The window shades were still closed
but the lighting has been spruced-up. They always had that plaform that
paralleled the bar, but now they have cocktail style paired-up new machines that
look east out the windows. Something completely different, for sure. The crummy
VP on the north end was tied to a royal progressive. On the south end there
were 98-99% games. They still had the $5/10 Game Kings right in the middle.
A thorough survey needs to be done. Once again, this would be a nice spot for
a cocktail with your girlfriend or wife (or maybe both?).
The games on the casino floor looked to be about the same. Those scattered
Sigma DJ still get alot of play. Yes those four Game King uprights with good
VP vanished from the north casino.
The Boiler Room in CB is still barely open. They open at 4p weekdays now and
shut down about 9pm even on weekends. I don't get it. They sold alot of
drinks in there after dark.
The Pioneer is indeed remodeling the exterior with new siding. They are
shooting for a mountain lodge look for some reason. The pool area will get a
facelift. Sassy Sue's bar only put on a couple of speciality beers starting
Friday afternoon. The pickings were slim on Thursday night. These seasonal beers
were New Belgium's (Fort Collins, CO) "Two Below Zero", which has a spice kick
and Sierra Nevada's (Chico, CA) "ESB". ESB usually means extra special beer,
and has a bitters aftertaste. So what that the uneducated 'tenders were
calling it "Early Spring Beer".
I took a nap on Friday night and came out about 11pm to put in my Pioneer
play. Victoria, the graveyard bartender actually turned-up the jukebox. I met
some interesting peop[e that night. I even shook one guys hand about eight
times when he kept introducing himself. He, and others tip alot better than me
so the bartender puts up with alot more nonsense...Lincoln is more welcomed
than Washington.
I did discover another long song to play on the jukebox...Uncle Ted Nugent's
"Stranglehold". Long songs work best. My vinyl copy says 8:22.
My southbound walkabout took me up to Harrahs. Once again I put on a couple
of Base points to refresh the six month comp clock. Not much has changed up
there game-wise. They did put in some Shufflemaster BJ, which could be a
better bet than the live BJ. I think they were $2 and $5 games.
River Palms did indeed move up the Spin-pokers to the top floor. I had a
chili dog from Java Joe's and talked to Jimmy the bartender at the nearby Parrot
Bay bar. The best game was 8/6 Jacks, but the royal meter was $1,700+. Jimmy
still has to suffer watching the games on two 25 inch CRT TVs. You cannot
even read the sportsticker scrolls.
Once again, I didn't get to ride the TE train. They have it running from
3-9pm or so now so you can see the seasonal lights. The TE bars still pour extra
large drinks in very nice glassware. This is in contrast to the 7 oz plastic
specimen cups that you get on the floor. It appears that all the
coin-clunkers are gone including the lone quarter 10/7 DB. It was too busy to do a
proper survey.
Enough for now,
BS
