AQUARIUS -- stayed for 2 nights on comp room + $50 free play offer. Front
desk warned me that they haven't been upgraded & they were right. It was just
like I remembered it from my last stay several years ago. It wasn't bad as
rooms are good size but amenities were AZ Charlies normal -- spartan. In
comparison to others on the river probably above average with Harrahs & Tropicana
Express being my stay preference for std rooms.
Gambling -- first visit back after several years was 2 months ago & I was
impressed with inventory. Just played there Tue & now realize that it was bait
& switch honeymoon period. They had plenty of good games from NSUD to JB that
were very common & are now MIA. You can still find them but it takes some
searching -- try river bar, didn't check out whole bar but did find 2 machines
with $ & up NSUD & JB. Since I didn't have a lot of time, played .25 10-play
BP STP to get a lot of play in fast. Not the best game but couldn't find
anything better for volume play in 1.5 hrs.
BTW, buffet is a vast improvement over old Flamingo buffet.
COLORADO BELLE -- did not have time to check it out but last time I was
there was before change to ACCESS card. At far left end of river bar, there was a
.25 machine with NSUD progressive. Can anyone check to see if it's still
there?
EDGEWATER -- stayed 2 night on 9/3 & got a gold card so I assume that means
silver cards are also still being issued. Have been told that this benefit
will not last much longer. Also learned that McDonald's will be replaced by
another restaurant but can't remember what. Sad for those who like McDonald's
but good for players as restaurant will probably be on comp list. Besides there
are still 2 other McDonalds -- Harrahs & Horizon Outlet Center.
Poker room has reopened in area across from sports book. If you're a poker
player, give them some business. During the short time I was there, it had a
hard time getting half a table.
TROPICANA EXPRESS -- it's been a few months since I've stayed there but that
was a memorable stay due to my hosts (who helped me when they were at
Edgewater & Golden Nugget) & the room. They haven't done a complete renovation but
the room I stayed in was probably a deluxe room with the best beds on the
river. These beds would probably outclass most of the ones in Las Vegas. Try it
out if you need a good night's sleep. I'm looking for an excuse to go back
but haven't been able to since too many of my trips don't have much slack in it.
