Laughlin Chamber comments

I read this short article, and thought that some of you might be
interested in the current economic state of gambling in Laughlin:

"Gaming revenue in Laughlin is rising but net profits are suffering.
According to Laughlin Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jo Elle
Hurns, although the gambling revenue rose 8 percent last year, the
cost of doing business has lowered the total profits for the resorts.
"Once they pay the power bill, the medical benefits, the utilities
the cost of doing business is bringing less money to the bottom
line," said Hurns. Hurns said the community is building trails and
river walks to attract more visitors and fill all the empty rooms.
Resorts in Laughlin only have an 80 percent occupancy rate and
visitor volume is down, according to Hurns. Hurns said the state
average for a hotel room is $80, but in Laughlin the average rate is
$30 a night."
