Las Vegas Trip Report 4/15-4/18

VPFree was a big help in finding the best pay machines. I had 12 pages of notes (!) that I had made from this site & others to make sure I was getting my gambling money's worth. I've really enjoyed reading everybody's stories & wanted to share my own.

Hubby went to Vegas for training & I tagged along. I was on my own Wed to Friday and was looking forward to going where I wanted, when I wanted. A little background, my MO is to put $20 in a quarter machine & if nothing happens, move on. DW had been my favorite game recently but it was all about the DB this time. I also like blackjack (but oddly will buy in for $100 with no qualms).

Wednesday, I held my own, including 4 aces on DB at the Stratosphere, & came back to the room with $100 more than I had left with.

Thursday morning, I hit a quarter royal on DB at Main Street Station* (held the dealt spades 10, Q, J & A & the king came on the draw). With quad 4's, I had gotten to just under $1200 & it spit out an $8.75 ticket to get me back under. So, I cashed out & then put about $60 back in ($20 at a time) but nothing else was happening. The 10/7 DB was across from the brew pub as noted here on VPFree.

*Over the course of the 3 days, I got 4 scratch off worthy hands. They were all $2.

A little more gambling here & there & I ended up back at "my" machine at the Stratosphere. The 2nd hand was quad 2's. Not too long after, I was dealt 4 to the royal in diamonds & the missing 5th card came on the draw. I couldn't believe it! Before today, I'd only had 2 royals in my life & now, I'd gotten 2 in 1 day. Then came quad 3's. The 10/7 DB was across from the poker room (as noted on VPFree), the 6 slant tops all have "optimum pay" on the top.
Unfortunately at this point, a passerby stopped & started talking to me. At 1st it was the usual "wow that's great" chit chat. Then it started, "I just need $20 to get in the poker tournament". I finally asked if he expected to get it from me & he said "maybe". I said no & tried my best to ignore him. While he was not overtly aggressive or even unfriendly, I got really creeped out. Once he left, I cashed out my ticket & put $20 back in but when I hit quad kings & couldn't enjoy it because I was still weirded out, I decided it was time to go.
I even took a cab back to my hotel-only a $6.90 fare if that tells you how close it was.

Friday was a bust. We were staying at the Hilton & it was the main source of money drain-I couldn't win a thing here. The best VP was LDW & it didn't do a thing for me.

Saturday was mostly siteseeing with hubby. We played some Caribbean Stud at Harrah's (I know it's a sucker game) & I got a full house & the dealer qualified, so a $175 hand. At Ballys, in the morning, I put in $20 & cashed out $140 after quad queens twice & a straight flush. That evening, I put $20 in the same bank & got quad 3's on the 2nd hand. I was so tried I could barely see straight, so I took the $100 & ran. The 7/5 BP were near the Keno Lounge (as noted here on VPFree), they were "suited royals" meaning each suit had a different progressive.

What a trip!! Thanks VPFree & all who contribute!

Great Trip Report. That's crazy about that guy thinking that you would just give him $20 to play in a poker tournament.

You just haven't spent enough time in a poker room. They're called
"railbirds" and exist in every poker room in the country and they are NOT
ashamed of asking for a stake. Its always funny to see one of these
railbirds actually raise the money, cash in the tournament and then try to
quickly collect and ditch out before they're "sponsor" sees them again.

Congrats on the good luck. Don't ever feel you have to put up w/ someone trying to hustle you for money. Tell them to leave you alone or you'll call Security. Then call for Security if they remain. Don't feel bad about being "impolite" -- he's the one imposing on you and making you feel uncomfortable.
