I drove to Shreveport last Wednesday for a couple
of days, had reservations Wednesday and Thursday
nights at the Isle of Capri and the Eldorado.
I am mostly a BJ player btw and arrived in
Shreveport around 1:30 PM. Not being sure if I could
check into the Isle that early I dropped into the
Boomtown casino a couple of blocks away first. They
have a DD game I like, bought in for a large and 30
minutes or so later had won $600. A good start.
Checked into the Isle, not sure whether it was a
standard room or not but it had 3 color televisons and
a Jacuzzi. On my solo trips I work too hard but this
trip I did manage 3 nice baths, the first of which was
in that Jacuzzi next morning! I played BJ for an hour
or so, bought in for another large, was down $600 or
so almost immediately but recovered to cash in for a
$1100 or so profit. Gee, I told my wife if I got up
$2K this trip I might stay over another night or two.
Harrah's at the race track had sent me a couple of
coupons, one of which was a $10 BB coupon which
required 15 minutes of play ( I think) so I drove out
there and played a little NSUD. I had been out there
last trip to play some NSUD to maintain my diamond
status. Played a little on a machine that allowed 15
credits to be played at a time single line, inserted a
Benjamin and got a little ahead right away. Played for
30 minutes or so and when my credits dropped back down
to $100 I quit and activated my coupon. Also made a
reservation for their steak house Thursday night since
I had a $40 food credit coupon.
I tend to ramble, so bear with me. For you VP
players, I did scout out the VP at every store in town
and to my surprise found some 9/6 JOB at every store
although it was mixed in with a lot of short pay. I
played some VP at every store also, 9/6 JOB every
where except the NSUD at the track.
Sometime or other Thursday I moved into the
Eldorado and took them down for another $1000 or so at
the BJ tables. I drove over the river to play some at
the Horseshoe and asked the floor for a room for
Friday night. They fixed me up but told me it was
doubtful if I could get a room for Saturday night
since they were overbooked and Wayne Newton was doing
a concert.
Drove back to the Eldorado and played a litle more
profitable BJ before going to bed. I can't seem to do
anything but win this tip! And after three losing
trips in a row it does feel good. I can never get my
favorite late night drink at the tables at the
Eldorado (B & B) so I settled for an Amoretto. When I
asked for a refill, the cocktail waitress said they
were out so I ordered a double Drambuie. And I don't
even like that sXXX!! Waitress brought the drink just
as the shoe turned cold so I headed for my room. Now
Louisiana and Nevada have the most liberal liquor laws
in the the US, the only two states where one can walk
down the street with a drink in their hand but Bossier
City, Louisiana has a city ordinance, I found out
which forbids booze being carried on or off their
boats. So there was a sign saying no alcoholic
beverages past this point at the entrance to the
casino manned by three security guards! So what could
I do but scout out the VP machines right at the
entrance. Multi game, multi denomination. Nickels,
dimes, and quarters, three and five play were
available also. I found nothing but shortpay on the
nickel and dime denominations but the 5 pay quarters
were full pay so I stuck in a Benjamin. I was not too
drunk, yet; even noticed that max plays was 125
credits or 25 quarters per line. I play VP mostly for
C & C purposes and I was ahead for the first day and a
half so I hit the max play button. The machine was
very forgiving, many times I was dealt a four flush
and usually hit two flushes not the mathematically
expected one flush. One early hand I was dealt two
pair and made 3 out of five full houses!! At 625
credits a full house. Then I kept the AQ suited of
clubs and hit the draw button. Hit a Royal for $5K.
When the attendants showed up I asked for a check and
for them to withold taxes. They did, some 30 minutes
later, withheld $300 in Louisiana state tax which I
understand I can get back if I fill out some out of
state residence paperwork and $1400 Federal tax.
While I was waiting for the check I played the
machine next to the one I hit the Royal on. It was
hot, also. Apparently if you reach some number of
credits, it automatically spits out a ticket. While I
was waiting, it spit out 7 tickets, low of $62.50 and
high of over $200. I ended up with over $1400 in
tickets before they brought me my check. And I
finished the drink.
The next couple of days were pretty good also, the
Horseshoe did throw me out at 1:30 PM Saturday
afternoon but a host booked me back into the Eldorado
and I drove home during the Cowboy massacre yesterday
afternoon.
One meal note, Friday night I ate at the Horsehoe
buffet at 10:00 PM, comped of course. I hate eating
alone but they have lobster claws as well as shrimp
and crab claws at their Friday seafood buffet. Ruined
another shirt. And was the last one out of there close
to midnight after cracking many crab legs open.
For any of you that read this far, my apologies.
There is more but I have a Christmas party to take my
wife to tonight.
