Subject: [vpFREE] Las Vegas is #1 for stolen cars & I'm one of the statistics
A couple of months ago, I stayed at the LV Hilton where I was down a couple
of thousand & getting ready to leave when I discover that my car was missing
from the parking garage. Call Security for help & they search all lots twice
& we conclude that it's stolen. Reported it to LV Metro Police & also offered
me a ride. Get this, service & empathy from Security & Metro were much
higher than expected & in stark contrast to people I normally deal with who were
very matter-of-fact about it. My car is a '94 Honda Accord. Immediate feedback
are stories of all the Honda Accords that have been stolen, makes you want
to come back to Las Vegas?
Anyway the good news is ins co got me a rental car which I was able to use
for 2 wks. Went home & had a return trip to LV when the day before my return
LV Metro called with news of finding my car at the Mirage parking lot where
they found 5 other stolen cars that day.
I'm back at the LV Hilton for a couple of days with the same car that was
stolen. Called Security & ask what's the safest place to park car. Valet, it's
a gated area. OK, do that & later that night I'm retrieving email & come
across a Forbes report on stolen cars. LV is now #1 in stolen cars having won
over Modesto which dropped to #5.
Surfing thru the article, find 10 tips for deterring car theft. #5 is valet
but not what you think. It says to have different keys for glove box & trunk
& give valet only the key for ignition switch or don't leave anything
valuable in the car. It's 7 AM, can't sleep now so I'm writing this for therapy.
PS, the car thief actually helped me clean out my junk & leaving the car
intact. Where I was robbed was at the tow yard, $250 for 2 days. TIP when towed:
go to the yard ASAP otherwise they will be happy to charge you for another
day.
