Here's my experience last weekend at the Las Vegas Hilton (LVH), for
the benefit of everyone trying to figure out their comp system under
the new owners.
I'd stayed at LVH earlier this year, under the old ownership. It was
my first stay, & I believe I played ~$10k/day. I started getting
offers of 3 free nights, plus $75 cash. I call up the host number,
talked to Jim Bobbera, & set it up.
Getting the $75 was simple at the main cashier; I think they just
looked at my ID & gave me the cash. During my stay, cashback
accummulated as normal, but comps accummulated slowly, around .1%.
After 3 days of gambling at ~$10k/day, I went to the host room, since
I was leaving the next morning. No one was there (this was Christmas
Day eve). Eventually someone appeared & took me to the manager of the
hosts. She looked at my play & said that I'd have to use my
accummulated comps to pay for meals. (I'd started with ~$100 in
comps, which had built to ~$150; my friend & I had had a couple of
buffets & a dinner at the nice Mexican place.) But, she said that if
I played some more that eve, I should check with the hosts in the
morning before I left to see if I could get more.
I continued playing, bringing it up to ~$12k/day. In the morning, I
found a host who again reviewed my play & said I'd have to use my
comp account to pay for the ~$120 in charges for food, movies, etc.
She said I should go to the slot club desk & get them to print out a
comp for that amount & bring it back to the host room to settle my
bill.
I asked how close I was to getting the food covered without having to
use my comp account. A guy in a suit was nearby, heard us talking. He
looked at my play & mumbled something to the host; I did definitely
hear him say "C4." At that, the host said that I could just get a
comp for $40 since my buffets would be covered. I'm not sure exactly
what the $40 was for; maybe the Mexican meal wasn't picked up, or
maybe it was couple of in-room movies & TV internet access.
So I wasn't out of pocket for anything, even the movies & internet &
tax or whatever could be paid out of my comp account. And even though
the account grew slowly during my stay, it actually ended up
increasing a little, since ultimately I only spent $40 out of it.
