Large loss rebates

I've heard that some players (whales) get their large losses rebated
at a rate of 10-15%. Does anyone know if this applies to video poker,
and if so, how large is "large?"

If you lose $50k you should at least ask, although MGM-Mirage apparently
doesn't do it at all for slots and the old Caesars needed at least $150k
loss.

I was told of a play that happened at John Ascuagua's Nugget in Sparks
one time. Hopefully I get the details right. They offered a 50%
rebate on VP losses for a 12 hour period. Some big boys went in and
played $5.00 five-plays. One lucky player flopped a royal. Another
big boy, very big boy, real big boy who ran progressive teams around
the state for years was thrown out for pulling his card.

When I played at the MGM Grand (it's been almost 5 years since I
was run off), you had a better chance of getting a loss rebated if you
were Oriental --- and the rebates were a percentage of your markers. So
if you had $100,000 in markers and you were Oriental (even if you were
born in California --- were an American citizen --- and didn't know any
Chinese words. You were Oriental if you LOOKED Oriental and had an
Oriental surname), you could probably get $10,000 or $20,000 forgiven.
For Caucasian video poker players, this wasn't done (unless you were
REALLY hopeless --- and they had several rich customers in this
category.) But for savvy Chinese-Americans, this was a great safety net.
They played big, used markers, had their slot club card fall out a few
times, and if they happened to lose this time, they STOPPED playing. If
you're barely into rebate territory, it can be very expensive to win
back a few thousand dollars.

Bob,

You may or may not know that the term "Oriental" is used to describe
things like rugs or food. When referring to people the preferred term
is "Asian".

I don't want to come across as some kind of expert on this (I'm not),
nor am I Asian (although I do have Asians in my family). On a forum
such as this it's probably not as crucial to be PC, but you obviously
publish in many formats (most of which I have read and thoroughly
enjoyed and learned from) so I wanted to make you aware.

Best regards,

I believe this thread has reached its climax now, can
we get back to VP?
