Landrys, the new owners of the two Golden Nuggets is going nuts with the
physical plant in Laughlin. Joe's Crab Shack recently opened replacing the
buffet/The Deck restaurant downstairs. This looks like a funned-up version of a Red
Lobster. It is casual for sure. Servers wear "Got Crabs?" T-shirts .
But the first project is way behind schedule. Jane's Grille is going to be
replaced with the 24/7 coffee shop Harlows, another Landrys franchise. But
this project is floundering. It was supposed to be done before Christmas, but
they were just pouring footings and knocking down walls for about just a 500 sq
ft expansion. Something about permits/inspections/changing plans slowed
progress.
The scariest Landry move to me is they boarded-up the Cheetah's Bar from
floor to ceiling. This bartop play had one of the best riverviews and offered
playable VP. The bar is history...so are the bartenders.
Landrys put in 20+ Game Kings, but all they offer are Keno selections.
Another sixpack of new upright Game Kings is smack dab in the middle of the casino.
These had VP only in $1, 2, 5 single line games. Five VP versions probably
never found together at this level of coinage on the river. Let's see...6/5
Bonus, 6/5 Jacks, 7/5 DDB, 6/5 WHA and Aces and Faces 10/8/6/3/1/1. Pretty sad
stuff.
So far some of the old favorite quarter plays still exist on the floor. They
have not messed with the bi-monthly marketing mailers yet. No promotions to
worry about either, except for the usual double point coupons.
So it doesn't look good in one part of Laughlin.
