Lake Tahoe Horizon closing April 1

This comes as no surprise to anyone that has been inside the Horizon recently.

I know Harrahs Lake Tahoe, has been sending out a lot less offers as of late. No competition there.

The real competition for Harrah’s is not the Horizon but the Indian Casinos in California. When I drive to Lake Tahoe using hwy 50 I drive right past the Red Hawk casino near Placerville. Thunder Valley has also done a big number on the Reno and Lake Tahoe casinos. After many years I have discovered that Harrah’s offers are weak during their peak seasons- skiing/winter and summer. The offers always seem to improve during the off season of Aprit/May and Sept/Oct/Nov.

I stopped in Friday to get a beer and say farewell to the Horizon. They had no beer in the place as they were in a closing mode. I found out that Saturday they were doing drawings for all the progressives that were left. One employee told me it was estimated at about $60,000. Drawing tickets were based on play for who knows how long?. A missed opportunity for me. I hope someone on this board scored big. The big prize was 40% of the pot.

The Horizon will be called Park Tahoe Casino Resort. They were telling employees that they could reopen as soon as September…I doubt it, but we will see.

Today, some of the Horizon signs were already gone.

I think it was a 3 week period to earn drawing tickets. I did $100k on the 15/9 deuces with a $7000 progressive but missed on both the progressive and the drawings.
