I just got back from a trip to Kyiv and I'm afraid I don't have much
to report. After being in Russia and not looking very hard for video
poker, but asking a few times and getting a blank look as if they'd
never heard of such a thing, even from the people who understood my
English, I didn't expect to find any video poker in Kyiv, but I did at
the one casino I was in. It was a 2 pair or better, non wild card
machine that had a payout schedule that was new to me. It paid 3 for
2 pair, 5 for 3 of a kind, 7 for a straight, 9 for a flush, and I
didn't even bother to record the rest. I assumed it was either
ridiculously positive, in which case it should be assumed to not be
fair, or ridiculously negative. I plan on going back soon and I'll
pay more attention then. Does anyone have any information for what to
look for there or whether I have any reason to assume the machines are
fair? I might try playing a little blackjack, but I'm leery of
winning a significant amount of money in a country with such greater
political corruption than even in the United States (so great that my
native companion there told me to not bother with the 24% annual
interest that banks were offering for deposits). In my best Lawrence

Kyiv Trip Report
My advice: don't gamble there and enjoy the vodka.
