Koko's Restaurant

Took advantage of the $75 coupon for Koko's.
I saw mixed reviews by other people on the site.
For my mom and I everything we had there was absolutely excellent.
PS: $75 was enough!

Too bad the electronic cards I saw today were as bad as the meal was good!

I thought it was good. Certainly the best quality dining option there. I
did have a problem or two. $75 is plenty.

We hit the buffet again the other day as well. The last time we tried this
was several weeks ago for brunch and it was absolutely awful. They couldn't
even make a decent omelette. If I were paying the $14.99 price I would
have been upset. I haven't had a cafeteria meal that bad since I went to
grade school. We were there again for lunch last week and had a somewhat
better experience. So my opinions range from disgusted to relieved that I
could find a few things that were worth eating. If they can keep the
quality up to the level of our most recent lunch, it would be worth dining
there from time to time.

Trump Rooms: We also gambled another stay at Trump last week. About a year
ago we popped for a jacuzzi room and had an extremely low opinion of the
hotel after that. The room had taken some abuse and the help was
inefficient. I know Jay and others have commented about a Grochowski
article recently that was positive about the Trump hotel. It may have been
the same article I read a year ago (more?)and I mentioned my disagreement
with his opinion at the time. Our most recent stay was a little more
positive. We had a standard room and it had seen better days, but it was
passable. I have stayed at worse roadside motels. Unless Harrah's/Resorts
resumes room offers, it will do if it is free. No way am I paying for it.

I haven't been to Hollywood in over a year, but was a regular there a
few years ago, and really miss Fairbank's steakhouse. All the steaks
were prime grade and huge, as were all items on the menu. I remember
ordering broccoli and it was a family sized order for one! The crab
cakes were fantastic, basically pure lump crabmeat with just enough
breading to hold it together, same with the stuffed lobster tail,
must have come with a pound of large lump crabmeat. They also had a
great fourless bittersweet chocolate cake...sorry I might be drooling
just remembering. I almost forgot about the onion soup, simply the
best. The other nice thing was that the comps were unlimited i.e.
here's a comp for two order whatever you want no $ limit. Has anyone
been ther lately...is it still good? I have also heard that Binion's
is very good but have not eaten there.

I'm glad somebody liked it. Although one of the MS hosts set up a
reservation for me I still had to stand around for 45 minutes because
it took a committee to figure out who had reservations. Once I was
seated it took another 30 minutes to have my order taken.

The food was very mediocre and I'm hard pressed to think of a similar
casino restaurant in Vegas or Reno that's worse. Aside from the delays
and mediocre food, Koko's lacks ambiance and just seems grotty. When
going to a restaurant of this type I like to have a complete dining
experience that's satisfying in every respect. IMHO, Koko's needs a
complete overhaul.

Koko's crab/crawfish cakes were pretty good, IMO. I've heard that Binions

been back in a couple of years. At the time their buffet was pretty good.

Does anyone have any idea as to how the blackjack tournaments at Majestic
star are structured? It's a little late to read and study Wong's book on
tournament strategy, but I thought I would try not to walk in there totally
unprepared. I've never played in one before and I'm a little surprised to
be playing in the one this Saturday. I haven't even had a MS black card for
a year, but when I went to collect CB from a moderate amount of play over
the 5x periods it brought up a host who kept on offering me stuff. I just
kept on saying yes. Very wierd. The MS comp system continues to be a
riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Number of hands in a round?

Number of rounds?

Presumably one player from each table advances to next round?

Presumably a button advances around the table at a random starting point?

Max/Min bet and starting bankroll?

Is there a chip count at any point before last round?

Rebuy?

Blackjack rules?

Chandler

I have played in a few, they are a lot of fun, but rather
disorganized, be prepared for everything to run late. I think it
usually runs four rounds, where the fourth round is the final table
where everyone wins some money. Usually 3 people advance from the
first round, and sometimes there are only 4 people in the first round
per table. After the first round only the winner advances. I know
they have re-buys for the first round. They count the chips after 15
hands, a total of 20 hands. The button rotates around the table. It
seems like about 1/4 of the people have some clue how to play
tournament games...having half a clue is a big advantage...but some
luck is also needed.

We went on the spur of the moment last Saturday. At around noon, a
reservation was made for us by a host for a 6pm seating. We got there
a bit early (5:30) and it was very busy. We were seated promptly at
6pm. The food was delicious - and we managed to spend the entire $75
(but just barely). The service was excellent.

We had eaten at Van Buren's the night before (Harrah's Joliet) on a
$150 gift (not taken out of our comp account). This is the 5th time
we have ever eaten there. The other 4 times were wonderful
experiences. This time was awful. The waiter was overbearing and the
food was marginal at best. Had I actually paid for this meal I would
have been livid. Harrah's is infamous for lousy food - until now, Van
Buren's was an exception to that rule. Hoping we just had an unusual
experience.

I have eaten at Van Burens's many times and have almost always been
diappointed. Consider yourself very lucky if you have had 4 good
meals there. The only good meal I had there was over a year ago they
had a prime grade N.Y. strip done in some sort of wine reduction...it
was the only prime grade steak on the menu which is surprising for a
supposedly premium restuarant. I pariculary like the diner grade wait
staff, they could hardly resist calling all the cutomers "honey".
When I asked once if a chocolate desert was bittersweet, they
said "Oh no...it's not Bitter!"

The crab cakes at both E. Chicago and Joliet are horrible, 90% bread
crumbs with a dash of shredded crab meat...yuch! Even on a comp I
actually sent these back, the chef should be ashamed of serving such
garbage.

As a treat try Hollywood Fairbank's, although I haven't eaten ther in
over a year...great crab-cakes.

Never eaten at Van Buren's. I've eaten at the Club Cappicino, the
buffet (Yuk!) and Winning streaks. With the exception of the Barf-
et, the food I've had was pretty good, although the people at
Winning Streaks need to learn what a Sport Pepper is, and start
putting them on their hot dogs!

Round 1: 4-5 at a table and 3 advance. You can rebuy for a 2nd
chance to advance for $30. Start with 1000 in chips. Bets range
from 50-500

Round 2: 4 at a table, 1 advance. Start with 1500 in chips. Bets
range from 50-500

Round 3: 6 at a table, 2 advance. Start with 2000 in chips. Bets
range from 50-500

Round 4: Final Table. Start with 2500 in chips. Bets range from 50-
1000

20 hands with a chip count after 17 hands.

Rules are normal Maj. Star BJ rules. Double after split is allowed.

Thanks for the information Jay and Toonces. So on a couple of rounds first
place is not essential for adavancement. Hopefully no need to get very
aggressive in round 1 anyway. Is the initial placement of the button random
and placed after seats are set? Just wondering if there is any possibility
to engineer a placement just to the right of the button on the final round.

Just refreshing memory on MS BJ rules: No LSR, S17?, DOA, DAS, RSA?

As I suspected when they requested I provide a PIN# when I changed to the
new card this year, MS is going to have cash accessable directly from the
machine as free play. I suspect one will eventually be able to access CB,
BB and other promotional cash directly from the machine. I had the chance
to use it last night with $30 in "promo cash" given to those attending the
Patty's Day do. If you have used similar systems elsewhere (Mandalay Bay,
Palms, Stations, Aladdin etc.) it works much like these systems. If things
are working the way they are supposed to it's an easy system. Most will
find it far more convenient than waiting in line at the club desk and/or the
cage. A few who go in to cash vouchers occasionally without any play may be
inconvenienced as "promo cash" must be run through a machine at least once
before you may cash out. Others who have larger promo cash amounts
available and who play larger denominations might be annoyed by the fact
that this cash was available in only $10 increments. You had to reenter
PIN# and download credits every $10. I didn't stick around for a thorough
survey, but it seemed to work on all functioning (Nancy had problems with a
bartop whos reader was broken) vp machines throughout the property. I'll
give some of the older machines a closer look to see whether they were able
to make them work with the new system. Those nickel machines not fitted for
TITO may well be a problem.

I think the promo cash may only be available on certain days (Tues-
Wed-Thurs)in my case. Also, as you suggest, it's not in place on some
machines. Supposedly, if you press the promo button and get a
flashing green light, you're good to go. JW

Thanks for the information Jay and Toonces. So on a couple of

rounds first

place is not essential for adavancement. Hopefully no need to get

very

aggressive in round 1 anyway. Is the initial placement of the

button random

and placed after seats are set? Just wondering if there is any

possibility

to engineer a placement just to the right of the button on the

final round.

Just refreshing memory on MS BJ rules: No LSR, S17?, DOA, DAS, RSA?
Haven't played blackjack at MS in a couple of years.

Bets range from

50-

1000

20 hands with a chip count after 17 hands.

Rules are normal Maj. Star BJ rules. Double after split is allowed.
