KINGS PAY

completely "by hand," or using older software, like WinPoker, that

Like

figuring in the EV contribution of the various trips, and the quad

Kings plus

the meter.

What's the challenge if you just feed the latest software the

it cranks out the EV?

Figuring out how to calculate something yourself greatly adds to your
understanding of VP, and, in particular, lets you assign correct

values to various

game/promo combinations. You pretty much learn nothing if the

software does

all the work for you.

I'm a big fan of Winpoker, I use it for pretty much everything except
OEJ. For OEJ I use Wolf VP, it's a very impressive program, but I am
old school all the way lol...

This was the first thing I noticed about Wolf VP, was its OEJ capability.
I've avoided OEJ like the chicken pox, but I may need to get more familiar
with it. The new Dancer software has some unique properties as well.

I was running with the big dogs last night. A couple of pints of
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale will do that to you. Okay, three, so whose
counting? I've read everyones posts. Wow!!! All the big dogs came
out on this one. I was being the wiseguy, but now I'm the one who is
doing the learning.

So you can adjust the three-of-a-kinds on these new programs? I
thought the 3K's would throw a cog in everyones wheels for awhile.

I could be rightly accused of a lot of things but "computer savvy" is
not one of them. I'm still trying to figure out how to adjust the
3K's on WVP. If anyone could give me a clinic I would appreciate
it.

I did it the old fashiooned (ignorant) way. I ran it with all 3Ks
paying 3. Then I calculated the extra EV on the hands that
pertained, like Dealt 3 kings, Aces, etc; a pair of Kings, Aces, etc,
One King, and so on. Then I tweaked the strategy chart putting the
hands in their proper places and analyzed again. I divided the
difference in the EV's by the cycle to get the add ons.

I got it up to 110.6494 (112.6494 with the meter) and quit. I left
out some hands. Like two-card royals and two-card straight flushes
that could turn into the pertinant three-of-a-kinds. I just figured
it was "close enough for the girls I go out with."

How I found the game:

Divince Providence. This game is not on the same machines as the
Jackpot Aces I was playing. The machines are made by a company
called Spielo from Nova Scotia, I believe. I had gone over all the
games on these machines before and found nothing. So I quit paying
attention to them.

I was just doing my regular leg work of scouring the casinos looking
for the Jackpot Aces mistake. When a Spielo machine is vacant the
screen rotates from the neutral screen to one of the games. It will
sit on a game for several seconds then rotate back to the neutral
screen, then on to another game. It does this over and over again.

I just happened to glance at one of these machines while it was on
Kings Pay. I seen a meter at the top that read $633.10. But it
didn't register. In my brain, that is. I finished up my survey and
left. I was a couple of blocks up the street headed to the next
casino when it finally registered. "That was a progressive meter,
dipstick. Go back and see what it's about."

If anything has a meter on it I'm gonna analyze it. I can't help
myself. It's that Forrest Gump thing. You never know what you are
gonna get.

On the neutral screen the game was showing $483.10 in the meter. I
punch the game up and the meter is dark. I stick a bill in and punch
it up one nickel at a time. When I got to $.50 the meter lit up.
Then I took a look at the payscale. It was definitely top heavy.
But I could tell the game as a whole was strong. I just didn't know
how strong. Then I timed the meter, 2%. Howdy Doody!!

So I headed back to the hotel, did some analyzing and strategy
writing. Then back to the casino. I wanted to know where the meter
reset so planned on playing until I hit the four kings. I figured it
would reset at $100 or something and the number I was playing was
pushed up by long term Montanan short-coining. I snapped the Kings
off at $522.05. Just about 4,000 games. The meter reset at $400.
Howdy Doody!!! "Oh, Lord, its hard to be humble."

Now the wheels start turning in my head. I was down to just a few
spots on the Jackpot Aces play, but I had been given another gift.
So I would scout out the locations of this game and, since I didn't
have any competition, run a circuit so as to not wear out my
welcome. The first thing I wanted to do was play the game with all
the extra money in the meters.

There are 17,000 machines in Montana spread out amongst 1,700
licensed establishments. From what I see on the casino floors my
guesstimate is about 3,000 of those machines are Spielo. I've been
through about 800 of those machines and haven't found this game on a
single one. Bummer.

It was probably taken off all the machines. It would take a blind
person to lose money on this game. I just found one that acidentally
got left behind. All they would have to do is drop the reset on the
meter to fix the game.

Oh, well. The Jackpot Aces play is gone. I'm just laying around
this very beautiful Montana town with the mountains, lakes, snow,
trees, rivers, taking life easy, and playing a little Kings Pay. I'm
doing my best not to tag them for more than a $1,000 a week.

And I'm contemplating my next move. Deadwood is not far to the
east. South Dakota also has hundreds of small casinos like Montana.
WildHorse Resort at Pendleton, Oregon has some money added poker
tournaments coming up in April. The side action should be good. It
will be hard to return to the grind out plays after what I've
experienced in Montana.

Good night and good luck.

I just figured out how to make those 3K adjustments on WVP. 110.9721%

Life is good

I have some clues that leads me to believe I found a very rare
mistake on a very rare game.

I have a game where when I'm betting $.50 per hand the 4 Kings pay
$400+. But if I were short-coining the 4 Kings pay 100 for 1 and the
rest of the payscale pays the same.

But what if I were betting more than $.50? I could bet up to $2 per
hand if I wanted to. Using nickel denom and the $400 preset this is
what happens:

From 1 to nine coins 4 Kings pay 100 for 1. Betting 10 coins 4 Kings
pay $400. Betting eleven coins 4 Kings pay $405. Betting 12 coins 4
Kings pay $410. Thirteen coins jumps it up to $415 and so on up
until I get to the fortieth coin where 4 Kings pay $550.

Each extra coin bet jumps the meter up $5 or 100 for 1. I suspect
the designer intended for the progressive on the 4 Kings to start at
100 for 1 which is $50 with ten coins bet.

And I suspect that if I ever find the game on another machine that is
where the meter will be starting. Running the game on the programs
with 4 Kings at 100 for 1 shows a 94.2455% payback. Throw in the
meter and it's a little over 96%, which fits in with most Montana
games.

Meanwhile, I went in this morning and pulled the rabbit out of the
hat. I hit the 4 Kings 3 times in an hour and a half. I hit 4 other
quads too. I put $40 in the machine and cashed out $1220.

They are not looking to happy with me. I'm gonna have to let this
one go for awhile.
