Now that I travel alone, this issue is even more critical as I
figure my risk is higher. My last 2 trips to Vegas have been for 11
and 14 days, so I needed a larger trip stake than I used to on
shorter trips. A friend suggested I wire most of the money I wanted
to take on the trip to one of the casinos I was to be staying at.
The process at my home bank took about 10 minutes. When I got to the
Palms (where I had the money wired), it took an additional 10
minutes or so to retrieve the first portion from the main cage, and
less than 5 minutes each time after. This worked out terrific. When
I checked out of the Palms, I retrieved the balance and put the
money in a safety deposit box at the Cal (where I was staying). I
needed to give a $20 deposit to do so, but that was refunded when I
was done using the box. I would guesstimate the extra steps I took
to ensure my money was safe took a total of less than an hour. The
peace of mind I derived was well worth it. I will use the same
process in the future.
