I'm not sure exactly how variance is calculated. Its listed in the VPFREE glossary. http://members.cox.net/vpfree/Gloss.htm It is related to risk of ruin. The higher the variance, the higher bankroll to have the same risk of ruin. Triple Bonus Plus or the more common Double Double Bonus both depend on getting quads to make up for the lower payout (push) on two pair.
