Just Another Rejected vpFree Post

Please stop playing games with me and gratutitously inserting
one of your groups into the body of a post.

If you decide to repost without the group reference, also
remove the negative/sarcastic references to Dancer. Make
your points, and disagree with him if you like but don't
belittle him. Your smoking analogy is fine, as your opinion,
but not with Dancer as the target.

Subject: Penalty Cards v. What's Really Important!

This post is a composite response to several recent posts on penalty
card strategy and posting of advantage play possibilities.

I thought Harry had an excellent post in response to the question
about
confusing strategy cards. I would actually push the debate even
further
away from whether to consider penalty situations in your strategy and
toward the use of a simplified basic strategy for a large majority of
players. With the average play being roughly 2% short of optimal, a
large majority of players would benefit greatly just by eliminating
the
most egregious mistakes.

It is all fine and good for Bob Dancer to talk about mistakes that
effect your returns 4 or 5 decimal places out, he does have to find
topics to write about week after week, but the impact of most of these
strategy tips is minuscule at best. The real impact on most players is
the whole package of game returns plus comps. The analogy I would make
to Bob' columns is to someone who is concerned about your health and
is
focusing on whether or not you add whole milk or 2% milk to your
coffee
each morning, but totally ignores your two pack a day smoking habit!
That is why I particularly appreciated Harry's comment about tipping
the
cocktail waitresses. Its important to understand relative financial
impacts of decisions you make.

To the novice video poker players, long before you should consider
penalty cards, consider just removing those egregious mistakes most
novices make, that account for the majority of that 2%. These are the
hands that appear frequently and have a wide spread between the best
play and second best play i.e. do you hold just trip Aces or the full
house, do you hold the pat straight-flush or just the trip deuces?
It's
amazing how close to optimal play you can get with a relatively simple
strategy. I use both Win Poker and TomSki Strategy Master. I test my
streamlined strategies using Winpoker and am amazed how well some very
simple strategies work.

A huge benefit to everyone on here and other forums, like
casino_comps,
is to help people understand the comping structure of each casino. For
instance if you just past the play level for a given level comps, such
as $10k a day for limited rfb, your best option may be to go spend the
rest of your play at another casino. I assume the writes of video
poker
columns have intimate knowledge of casino comp structures and it would
be very difficult to argue that discussing these details would harm
their own comps or wallet. Why not help out the community that has
supported you financially all these years, and post some detail
information on casino comp structures.

As a side note, we are lucky in the Chicago area, besides the Sox, to
have three casinos within a mile of each other all with very strong
99%
games that often provide for well over 100% play when combined with
promotions. I make a point of posting these opportuniies as I become
aware of them. Right now Trump has a promotion provides 100.7+% return
for the lower level player, $5-15k, and 100.5+% for the higher level
player. I figure if I post good plays other people will post good
plays
that I may have missed.
