Joke Poker (Kings or Better) question (Unsuited AK > A,K or the other way?)

WinPoker and Frugal VP Strategies show:
Unsuited AK
K
A

while vpgenius shows:
K
A
Unsuited AK

Which one is correct?

Thanks.

Which one is correct?

WinPoker and Frugal.

All 3 sources show the same values associated with each of these holds, with the unsuited AK being the lowest valued hold. However, WP and Frugal rank the AK above the lone card holds.

The actual lone K or lone A hold values when both A & K are present in the hand are actually lower than the general case values in the chart (fewer straight possibilities). WinPoker and Frugal are intelligent enough to tweak the strategy order to reflect this. vpgenius ranks strictly on the based of general "Avg Values", without this additional consideration.

Thanks for the info, Harry!

There are other slight differences (in strategy order) that I noticed between WinPoker and Frugal VP.

Frugal Strategy order shows:
- Joker + 7 (actually Frugal names it 'W' for Joker)
- W + 8
- W + 6
- W + 10
- W + 9
- W + 5

while
WinPoker (Analyze Any Hand) shows:
- W + 6 higher than W + 7
where:
W+6 valued at 7.3581
W+7 valued at 7.3303
or
- W+6 higher than W+8
W+6 valued at 7.3858
W+8 valued at 7.2956

and
WinPoker also shows:
W + 9 higher in order than W + 10
where:
W + 9 valued at 7.2965
W + 10 valued at 7.2812

Thanks again for your valuable inputs!

If you want to compare "apples to apples", then use the feature in each program that will analyze a specific 5 card hand. In WP, that's the "Analyze Any Hand" option you've used. In FVP, it's "Strategy Charts"/"Create a Hand".

Give 5 specific cards, both programs should arrive at the same rankings.

Harry,

Wish I could agree with you on this one but I just tried your suggestion and got different results as follows:

1. Given Hand is: Joker, 6c, 7d, 10h, Qs

WinPoker strategy order has Joker + 6 higher than Joker + 7
while
Frugal VP Best Strat has 7, 1 Wild (or Joker)

2. Given Hand is: Joker, 10c, 9d, 3h, Qs

WinPoker has Joker + 9 higher than Joker + 10
while
Frugal VP Best Strat has 10, 1 Wild

Try "create a hand" under the PerfectPlay menu in FVP.

You will get the same results as WP.

You are right! The results from FVP matched those in WinPoker when I used the "Create a Hand" option under the Perfect Play menu instead of the one under the Strategy Chart menu.

I wonder if they'll change anything in the View Strategy Chart option!? Maybe not since I could not find anything about "update" to FVP 1.0.0.0 in Jim Wolf's or Jean's website. The only updates I saw were for the newer "Wolfe Video Poker" program.

Thanks Dennis.
Gilbert

Strategy Play Mode under FVP is intended to have the general case strategy rankings override any play variations that otherwise would rule under Perfect Play. So, no ... don't expect that this would change.

Dennis caught an important caveat ... to duplicate Winpoker strategy results in VPW, you must be in Perfect Play mode.
