Was just writing my annual article for the American Casino Guide, where
I note the best Vegas casinos for video-poker playing visitors, and
noticed a couple of oddities:

1) Very little has changed since last August. Best dollar strip plays
last year: Venetian, Caesars, Bellagio; pretty much still are this year.
Best quarter plays last year: MSS, Riviera, Tropicana, Sam's Town,
Boulder Station, Fiestas, Palms, Green Valley, Casino Montelago,
downtown in general. This year, much the same. No devastating
slash-and-burn reductions in FPVP inventory like in every damn year before.

2) Actual IMPROVEMENTS!!! My top recommendations for the Strip weren't
even on the list last year. The FPDW progressive returns to the New
Frontier, making it (along with great room offers) the no-brainer
low-roller choice. The plethora of $1+ 9/6 JoB at Wynn makes it arguably
the premier high-roller play. The new 25c/50c/$1 10/7 DB at the
Stratosphere re-introduces a 100%+ dollar play to the Strip. MSS
actually has a handful more FPDW machines.

Yes, I realize that overall, things still are headed suckward. Comps
tighten up, the dregs (Harrah's, Rio, MGM) reach new low in payout
pathos, slot clubs selectively target good machines for lousy comps,
etc. But, this is the first time I haven't needed a stiff drink after
writing my annual report. Or, maybe somebody slipped something into my
iced tea BEFORE I wrote it. Thoughts?

"MSS actually has more FPDW"- not sure what inflection points you are using
JK? Did I miss a recent turn in the curve?

I thought we were currently down to six nickel based FPDW...three uprights
and three slant-tops. Nickel based games means 50% of points.

When did the three quarter based uprights turn into Not So Ugly, Nov/
2004...I forget?

Based upon reports, 10/7 DB might be stronger nowadays, but not FPDW and
certainly not the MSS's Boar Bar bartops (I am so sad).

BS

P.S. I will miss the plays at Cal, LVC (now VC) and the Plaza too. Binions
has improved I will give you that...the doors are not locked anymore.

Hello
If anyone knows the status of full pay at MSS, Cal, LVC, & Plaza I would be interested as we are coming in a few weeks and stay at MSS & Sams. We are also staying 2 nights at the Rio. Pretty bad VP there?
That is all I play so I might have to hike over to Palms.
thanks in advance for your help

Good points; I stand corrected. Downtown has decidedly faded a bit during this span. As for MSS, I was remembering the new FPDW slant-tops; forgetting that they yanked those uprights. Oh, well.

If anyone knows the status of full pay at MSS, Cal, LVC, & Plaza I would
