4. On the fifth coin, the player has an edge. That goes even for lower-
paying games. On 8-5 Jacks or Better, the payoff on coins Nos. 1-4 is
only 96.06 percent. But on the fifth coin alone, we get back 102.26
percent, raising the overall return on the machine to 97.3 percent."
How do you get 102.26% return on a 8/5 Jacks or Better game?
We don't usually express vp return in terms of incremental return for
each coin bet, but it's a reasonable statement of what you get for
betting 5 coins vs. 4. (However, I come up with a value of 103.96%.)
When compared with what you get for a 4 coin wager, a fifth coin gets
you a standard prorata increase in payout for all lines except the
royal. On the royal, you go from 1000 coins paid for the 4 coins (250
ea) to 4000 coins, an increase of 3000 for that last coin.
So, pop an 8/5 Jacks paytable into a calculator where you set the 1
coin RF to 3000 (or 5 coin to 15000), and you'll see that the wager of
the last coin returns 103.96% -- unfortunately, you have to wager 4
coins at a significant negative return to take advantage of that nice
bonus.
