Joe Maloof Winning a Mil in BJ Tournament at Barona

Read a few more details about this in the Southern California Gaming Guide,
which can be accessed at www.thegamingguide.com. (I have an article in this
about every other month. There are also articles by Dancer and others.)

Anyway, this was an invitational tourney, with an entrance fee of $10,000
for the winner-take-all one million prize. There were 41 entrants in the
two-day four-round event.
Joe was down $16,000 before the last of 120 hands. He bet the max on the
last hand, $25,000 (tournament chips), and got a BJ!!!!!! He said, "The
only thing that would make me happier is if the Kings won the championship."

Hey, even millionaires like to get lucky!!!!!

Then he's as happy as he's going to get.

luck or rigged?

41 contestants at 10k entry to win 1 million, if the report is correct. Luck aside, sounds like a darned good gamble.

Let me do the math 41 x $10,000 = $410,000 in entry fees....1st place
is $1,000,000...looks like an overlay to me!

What is an "overlay"?

Thanks.

An Overlay is an old Horse players term. When you make a bet on a horse at say 5-1 odds that in your estimation should be the even money favourite, you are betting an overlay.
