The best way to avoid losing your ticket to a thief who presses the cash-out
button, while you are distracted by conversing with someone, is to draw a hand and NOT PLAY IT, before you turn away from your machine. This prevents a
dishonest person from cashing out your ticket.

Sound advice. Also useful if you leave your machine for a bathroom break or other errand, entrusting the credits to someone else to watch. (Of course, pulling the ticket is even safer.)

It's best to select the hold cards for the new hand before you leave ... it's easy to forget you've left the machine mid-hand and absent-mindedly hit the "Deal/Draw" button upon your return.

Some aren't aware that when your machine is waiting for the deal of a new hand the "DEAL" button flashes, acting as a beacon to anyone scanning banks from a distance that there's a machine sitting idle with credits on the meter. (Someone should suggest to IGT that this is a bad idea.)
