Lima beans are a staple in the deep south. Everyone knows southerners
like black-eyed peas. But maybe everyone doesn't know that lima beans
are just as popular. But southerners call them butterbeans.

Everyone in rural Mississippi where I'm from has a garden where both
peas and butterbeans are grown every summer and canned for the winter
time. I like either with cornbread.

I hate to disillusion you, Mickey, but butter beans are bigger than limas and are sort of beige in color. Limas are green and smaller. Both are delicious, along with black eyed peas. I hate to disillusion you, Mickey, but butter beans are bigger than

limas and are sort of beige in color.

I know the ones you refer to. I see them in the can in some
supermarkets out west here and they do say butterbeans. But as they
would say in Mississippi "them things ain't fit to eat."

Limas are green and smaller.

I see these in the can in supermarkets too and even buy them if I'm
set up for cooking. They have always been called butterbeans by
Mississipians and always will be. It's probably just a cultural
thing. Rural Mississipians don't eat them out of the can. They eat
them out of the garden.

BTW, every kid from where I'm from has done duty picking and shelling
butterbeans and black eyed peas(along with their cousins, field peas,
crowder peas, and purple hull peas) at harvest time. If you want to
see some kids scatter, just walk towards where they are playing with
a bushel basket in your arms. They'll scatter in all directions for
fear of garden duty. If you want to keep the kids out of the house
just set a bushel basket full of peas or beans on the porch. They
won't come within a hundred feet of it for fear of shelling duty.

Both are delicious, along with black eyed peas. I just wish
Silverton would keep the bits of ham out of the beans. Any of these
cooked with a ham bone are scrumptous (without dried out ham bits)!

I have to go now. Getting hungry. I wonder if they have a soul food

One of them is yams/sweet potatoes, and the other is----LIMA BEANS.
Those two vegetables, I find extra repulsive when cooked the
Midwestern/1950's/June Cleaver way, which is to say, boiled until they
are the consistency of used Kleenex.

Were I the hapless Winston Smith in "1984", and told to go to "Room

waiting there for me with a bowl of mushy, overcooked LIMA BEANS.

The horror! The horror!

Hi, I am quite new to vpFREE. Am enjoying greatly the posts and the group, since I love Vegas and am getting the poker strategy down! Whoo hoo. I cannot remember who posted earlier about comps and mailings. But it was mentioned that folks from out of state do not get mailings from Gold Coast. Is that really true? We are staying there for the first time next week and hopefully generate some offers our way for the future. I know that every hotel/casino has their own secret marketing. But why would GC not offer to non-locals? We live in AZ and it is quite easy for us to zip up there. Just wondered. Anyone have any ideas? We are low to medium rollers and I am really looking to get some offers .

Man, you really should write a book!! A great reply.

Coast Casinos in general has gotten more cheapo over the years, the
most glaring instance of that being their recent slashing of
comps/cashback by 2/3. The fact that they try to "compensate" for
that by offering locals/repeat customers mutiple point days and
other promos, plus their "tier" player card system that offers
another way for habitual, er, loyal customers to compensate for the
point-slash, says exactly ONE thing: "we don't give a rat's ass
about casual visitors". If you just drop in from out of town, you'll
get screwed on comps and cashback; that's evidently just what they
want.

As a rule, if you're an out-of-towner, you have to concentrate on
those casinos that cater to tourists. The best of those are
the "outliers"; geographically disadvantaged joints that have to
work to attract customers. Coast obviously feels that the GC isn't
as isolated as other locals' casinos, so they don't have to swell
the ranks of customers with out-of-towners.

By contrast, Silverton, AZ Charlie's West, and Fiestas, to name a
few, actively market to out-of-towners AND have good VP. The
Stratosphere is very generous with room offers, as are the Plaza,
Main Street Station, and El Cortez downtown--all of those have good-
to-excellent VP. Check the database for specifics.

Thank you so very much for all that great information. It certainly makes sense. I am sorry to hear that about the Gold Coast. I have been doing research on good places to stay and play for comps and offers, and had not heard much about CG. I've seen some posts about GC offers on LVA, but did not know if they were tourists or locals. Only heard about cleanliness, food, etc. Good thing we are driving this time....will visit the outliers, sign up and play some great VP! By checking database, do you mean database on this site? I'm a newbie, so bear with me. Thanks all!!

Coast has gone to the dogs since Boyd Gaming has taken over. When

Michael Gaughan bought the South Point a couple of years ago.

The South Point is the place to go. Fair VP with good paytables.
9/6 VP, NSU deuces, 9/7 DBP, and 9/6 DDBP.

$1 coin in = 1 pt. 1000 pts = $3 cash back.

No tiers, cash available same day.

The wife and I are from Fort Worth and try to visit our money at least 2x a year to see what it's building. The last time out we were comp'ed at the Rio but could not find anything there to play, the craps tables started at $25, same for blackjack unless you wanted to settle for 6-5. As for VP, 8-5 job was the best we could find.

We did most of our play across the street at the Gold Coast and gave them quite a bit of play but never got any kind of offer. I don't know how much I put thru but I played 9-6 JOB for at least 4 hours each day and crap or BJ for the other 4.

I'm really disappointed with Boyd, maybe they have overextended themselves with all their expansions and need the money. A sure way to lose customers. I'm going to try SP next time out.

Have you received any offers that include the point multipliers? Or just offers for room/tournaments?

It is the point multiplier offers that I am interested in knowing whether out-of-towners will receive since it appears that it requires an invitation to have points multiplied as compared to before when it did not.

I've just returned from staying at the Gold Coast and their current
policy is that no point multipliers are sent to out of town players.
Even for Emerald Card holders.

And as the club card attendants and managers will tell you, if you
did not receive a mailer with the points offer then you do not get
the offer.

Thank you so much! Found it, pretty much understand it, and made notes for our trip this weekend. This really helps. I plan to be far less "clueless" in the casino than in previous trips. I have practiced VP so much in the last month or so, that I am seeing cards in my sleep. LOL
