I recently hit a handpay jackpot and wanted to take a picture of it with my phone and one of the employees at Harrah's said that taking pictures of jackpots is not allowed. Has anyone else had this experience?

Thanks,

Tchic115

Actually, all pictures are forbidden in a casino. Cameras were not allowed in casinos before the wide-spread use of cell phones. I think that rule is still in effect, but not able to be enforced these days. I have taken pics many times of jackpots. Just don't do it in front of employees. A perfect time for it is while you are waiting for any employee to even acknowledge your jackpot and that you need a W2-G.

To many more pics for everyone!

On the Strip, I regularly see people take pictures of friends with Caesar and Cleo on the casino floor, as well as some of the more extravagant displays within any casino. In Harrah's - New Orleans, people frequently take photos of the ornate motifs within the casino. These are never discouraged.

Any seasoned security officer, worth their salt, isn't going to be concerned about an isolated photo of friends, or a jackpot. More extensive photo taking of tables, general casino operations, or just patrons at large will likely raise an eyebrow and draw action.

The real problem is with junior employees who take it upon themselves to be jr g-men and decide to quash your jackpot photo. There's not much you can do other than comply rather than risk an uncomfortable incident.

Lu Ann's advice is sound. Know your camera well enough that you're positioned to take a quick snap without much fuss when no one's really paying attention, or before they can do much about it. (No one's likely to make you erase a taken photo, or seize your camera, over a jackpot photo.)

I'm curious: which Harrah's? LV?

Delaware Park is especially vigilant about not allowing pictures to be taken, I've heard.

I haven't seen a sign in a casino forbidding pictures in a long, long time. I'd question the employee to ask where this rule is stated. Some people get an idea in their heads and just believe it is correct.

A few months ago I got a RF at Harrahs Ak Chin and the person that paid me encouraged me to take a picture.

I've taken many, many pictures of jackpots with my phone, and something like this has only happened to me one time. I flopped for $2500 (dealt quad 2s) on one of the upper lines of a Double Pay Poker machine. I took a picture of this with my phone before holding the bottom line cards, which didn't amount to much of anything. When the young attendant came by, she couldn't figure out how in the world I won over $2500 when the machine only showed about $10 won on the draw. I explained that I had flopped $2500 on the initial deal, and I could even show her the photo if she wanted to see it. That was when she said "You know, it's illegal to take pictures in the casino". I don't know if this was really true or not, and I don't think she did either. I think it was just something she had always heard and assumed to be true. Anyway - as others have mentioned on this thread - it is awfully difficult to enforce this rule now with all of the cell phone cameras around. I did get paid with no further complications, so it was really a non-issue.

My experience is the opposite at CET Vegas properties. I can't count the number of times they have seen me taking a picture of a jackpot and they offer to take the picture with me in it. The only CET property that sometimes objects is the one they manage in Canada and there they say it is Canadian law. So there we just take it before they come ( most jackpots don't require a slot attendent since there is W2G's and records made of jackpots).

Thanks,

I've taken many pictures of jackpots, in many different CET locations. Recently, at Horseshoe Southern Indiana, I forgot to take the picture until just at the time the attendants arrived.

They told me "sorry, but we can't allow you to take a picture"..I asked why...they said "casino policy - you need to take it before we get here and that's fine. We just can't allow it once we're here".

DUH??

Thanks,

This is also the same place that "requires" you to spin off a hand pay.
I refuse, hit cash out and let them go through the 10 minute process of
having a slot attendant do it themselves. When I questioned one
attendant about this policy, she told me it was state law. Total BS.
