In about 1993 I spent a few nights in Jackpot, NV and it was very small
with a main hotel and a few saloons with some vp and slots. At about noon
one day I checked out one of the saloons and played a quarter bartop vp. I
never before nor after have seen a vp machine like this where the cards kind
of spun from the deal/draw in like fireworks to the display. After less
than ten hands I hit a royal for like $1175.00. Awesome but the kicker was the
guy at the bar paid the jackpot out of his wallet. No joke this was/is a
one horse town. I have never been back. Very spooky the way the place is so
isolated.<<
There's a little more to Jackpot these days. Cactus Pete's is a
reasonably large and rather upscale place (hotel, pool, buffetetc.) but I've never
found anything particularly playable there. On the two occasions I've been
up there, I spent more time over at Barton's where they have (or did last
fall) some full pay Pick 'Em. (I've gotten some FreePlay from Bartons during
my Birthday month as well.) The size and sophistication of the other
casinos in town slides downhill quickly from there.
As I've mentioned before, Jackpot is one of the few towns in Nevada on
Mountain time, which is (in my opinion) to show solidarity with most of their
customer base, which comes down from Idaho. For all intent and purposes,
Jackpot was founded for the sole purpose of having a place to put casinos
as close to the Idaho border as possible on Highway 93.
