Jackpot - Comp - No Thanks

I hit a nice progressive for over $2K earlier this morning. The recent discussion on this board had me thinking - "ask for a comp" So that is what I did... Well - it didn't exactly go the way I expected. I told him that I would like 4 for the buffet. He came back and told me to show my card at the buffet and it would all be taken care of. As I was leaving, I asked him, "what if I don't come to the buffet?" He said,"make sure that you call the buffet and tell them because if you don't cancel it and don't show up, the points will still come out of your account". Thanks for nothing!!!!!

I don't understand you complaint. You asked for a comp, you got
exactly the comp you asked for,and you are still upset.?? what am I
missing.?? Dick McK.

Well - I could have just as easily pulled my comp $ from my account. A discretionary comp would have been nice.

I don't recall that specific discussion, but such courtesies are
largely a thing of the past -- the bean counters rein supreme these
days. Still, I suppose at a couple of the smaller locals such a thing
is still possible.

I still remember fondly the days at Barbary Coast where a modest tip
on a RF (or even a hand pay on quarter deuces) along with a gracious
request would land you a "meal card". If the attendant was in a
generous mood (notably, ones on the grave shift) they'd give you one
good for dinner, rather than just breakfast.

Our best meal there was courtesy of a dinner meal card. We had their
t-bone special -- a steak that rivaled the best we'd ever had in a
coffee shop. (A repeat at a later date, on our own comps,
unfortunately proved mediocre.)

In general, these days, "discretionary comps" are a thing of the past.
They consider your earned slot club points to be your comp source,
period. The only exception to this might be if you got totally blasted
and didn't earn enough points in the process to get anything worth
while---THEN the host, MAYBE, might comp you to a meal or two. Maybe.

The above doesn't apply if you're one of those worthless scumbags that
only plays decent VP machines. Then, you will NEVER get ANY
discretionary comps, and will (at most places) earn slot club points
at the rate of about three cents worth of comps for every $1 trillion
coin-in.

The only comp value nowadays is in bounceback coupons, and the
occasional decent promo. It's become a tough ol' world out there.
