JA Nuggett

I have been lurking in this group and other VPFree groups for a couple

of months, and I have not seen any chatter about JA Nugget. John
Asquaga's Nugget has got to be the best kept secret in Nevada. It is
a little out of the way, in Sparks; but the Nugget has by far the best
comps and offers. The competition from the big Reno operations has
apparantly forced the Nugget to make some very attractive offers. <<<

I wouldn't say it's the best kept secret. Its comps for instance cannot be easilty exchanged for anything that has cash value. You can use them directly for meals and room, but for spa or gift shop purchases, you can only use 1/2 comps and the other 1/2 must be cash (well, this can be finessed with their gift cards).

I play VP exclusively, usually $1 Deuces Deluxe... Yes they still have

2 old Sigma coin droppers there, as well as 4 DDJB Sigma machines. I
usually have a coin-in of around $10-15K per weekend visit. The comps
run .75% on the VP. Thus I usually earn $75-100 on my comps card for
4-6 hours of play. This covers all the meals my wife and I eat. <<<

The old Sigma coin dropper Deuces Deluxe are known and in the database. They are slow and clunky, if you cash out over 400 coins, they will spit out 400 coins and require a hand pay for the rest. The hopper fill is 600 coins, so you are 2/3 likely to get a hopper fill too on a 400+ coin cashout. The machines often short you one or two coins on hopper jams, but the cage will usually make up the difference when that happens. There are only 2 machines, and if they are both occupied, you are SOL if that's all you play.

The comp rate is high, as you note, but the comps have limited value. You quickly run up so many comps that unless you really like to eat at the Nugget restaurants a lot (to the point where you'd come to the Nugget just for the restaurants even if you didn't play at all), you have to seriously discount the comps.

The mail offers come more often than we can use them...... We stay

free for 2 or 3 nights every other weekend. The latest offer is for
as many nights as I want from Aug 30 thru Sept 6 (Labor Day weekend). <<<

Free room stays are not hard to come up with just about anywhere if you are a $1 or higher player. The rooms at the Nugget are OK, but much nicer rooms can be had at other places for comparable play.

Hotel room offers DO NOT COME OFF YOUR COMP ACCOUNT!!!! <<<

This is the case at many places. This also makes it that much harder to spend the comps you earn at the Nugget.

No cash back. <<<

Some places have significant cash back, but that's more often the case in Southern NV than Northern NV these days.

My level of play is about par with other dollar VP players, and would

not be that great at any other Reno casinos, but is considered "well
above average" here. <<<

I think you might be surprised at how well you could be treated at Reno casinos with comparable play.

The Nugget offers may well be very good for you, and if you are enjoying staying and playing there, that's probably the most important thing.

The casino VP selection may not be as great as the Pepp, but I can

only play one machine at a time anyway. They do have $1 JOB with a
4500RF (99.8%), $1 Deuce Deluxe (100.35%); $1 DDJB (100.35%); $1 NSUD
(99.73%) ; 5-25 cent 10/7 DB (100.15%); JWKB 17/7/5 4700 RF (99%).
The .75 comp rate makes FP out of even 99.25% games. <<<

Again, I'd seriously discount the comp rate. For most places I play, comp rate doesn't even come into the picture unless it's a place where the comps can be converted into cash or reasonable cash equivalent. Free stays and free food are pretty much a given wherever I play.

The monthly bounce from the Nugget, the occasional free slot tournament offer (about twice a year), and the annual gift cards are nice. Still I see better bounce, and much more in the way of tournament, show and other offers from other places.

There is a VP tournament every Sunday afternoon, free entry, played on

special tournament DDB machines. $750 first place prize. You get 20
minutes of play on an IGT touchscreen. <<<

Many places have free VP, slot, blackjack and other tournaments on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Some places have daily card swipes, lottery entries, weekly/monthly drawings, etc. All are part of the promotions package for a casino. Again, I'm not saying the Nugget isn't a good place for you to play, but that most of the things you mention that they offer are also offered (or comparable things are offered) by many other casinos. It's hard for me to think of the Nugget as some hidden jewel in that respect.

Perhaps you misunderstood the intent of my posting to this group. My
intent is to make the subscribers aware that there is a place in the
Reno area where a 10-15K per weekend VP player will be treated as a
"meduim high roller" and earn comps greater than any other Nevada
Casino ON VP PLAY. Lets face it, most casinos treat VP players as a
tolerable nuisance. It isnt that way at Johns.

Since my posting a week ago, I have received an offer for every
weekend from Aug 25 until Sept 30.... the offers each include two
nights, unlimited refreshments, and two show tickets. One included
entry into an invitation only slot tournament with no entry fee, $5000
top prize. The comps do not come off my "johns card" comp account. I
always get a West tower room, usually a corner room, a jacuzzi in the
winter when the hotel is lightly booked.

I have played VP at the other Reno casinos, on FP machines, at the
same coin in...... the comps were meager in comparison, and the room
offers were either "casino rate" or coupons that came off my hard
earned comp account. When I run 15K thru a full pay Deuce Deluxe $1
VP machine, I find $100 on my comp account, and althouth it may be a
drag carrying $200 in coins approx 20 steps to the cashier cage, it
beats leaving all my money in a 99% VP machine at the Pepp. At the
Eldorado, I would have $66 in my comp account, maybe (There is a $600
per year max on comps.) Or I could get $33 at the Silver Legacy, they
also have a $600 yearly limit.

There are 300 plus subscribers to this forum; many play at my same
level; but few if any have posted on JA Nugget. This is likely
because they not given it a try.

The Nugget is out in Sparks, away from the charm that is downtown
Reno: the glitter, the traffic, the porn flyers, filthy homeless men,
pay parking, and auto burglaries.

If you know of a Reno area casino with greater or equal comps and
promotions for VP players with a coin-in of 10-15K per weekend, and
100-150K a year please let us know.

Thanks very much for your post about the Nugget. I have not been out
there in a couple of years, and the last time I was not impressed. I
may wander out there next trip. For those of us that drive in from
California, it is probably a shorter drive to reach the Nugget than the
Peppermill or Atlantis, as you just continue down the freeway- no city
traffic. Your one response was perhaps a bit over analytical in my
opinion, especially as a response for a first time poster. Please stick
around and feed us some more "nuggets" about Reno and Sparks

You also had another response to your original post, but it was posted
on the vpFREE mother board, not here. Here is that post:
