Isn't That Ilegal

Some posters seem to be upset that their posts may be used in a
book/magazine/etc where the author is paid. I rarely post but several
years ago I did post with a good quotation (reference given). The
quotation was never used in her books (which I have, have read & have
benefitted from) but very shortly after posting, I received an e-mail
from Jean asking for permission to use the quotation. I suspect that
other reputable authors have also requested and received private
authorization for quoted materials.

I also have to question the schizophrephnia/sanity/?? of posters who
post publicly and then are paranoid about how their posts might be
used.

I really try to get permission from the writer when I quote something of any length verbatim. But I am a sponge, as I think most writers are, and I read all the time and absorb so much information. Then later I write a column or a chapter in a book and I am sure that I use a lot of ideas I have received from many different sources, but I surely don't remember where or who was the original writer.

I discuss this at length in the Acknowledgments at the beginning of "More Frugal Gambling." I am hoping that I contribute enough to the forums I am on that this is not just a one-way street.
