Isle of Capri ??????????'s

I live just outside Chicago and the new casino will, by far, be the closest
to me. I am apprehensive to be too excited as I play in Indiana
(Majestic-Trump) for the same reasons most VP players do - the casinos in Illinois (at least
those around the Chicago area) have poor BB$ and other benefits and a very
limited or non-existent full pay selection, not to mention our new governor and
his incredible casino tax. So, who is the "Isle of Capri"?
What other casinos do they operate and where? Do we have a chance of getting
a decent game selection and slot club?
I'd appreciate any input, I'd like to get excited about being 20 -30 minutes
from a good casino!

Ilse of Capri still has to get licensed by the Il. Gaming Board, so
it is not a done deal as of yet. Here is a link to their finances
from Reuters'
Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc. is a developer, owner and operator of
branded gaming facilities and related lodging and entertainment
facilities in growing markets in the United States. The Company
wholly owns and operates 13 gaming facilities located in Lake
Charles and Bossier City, Louisiana; Lula, Biloxi, Vicksburg,
Natchez and Tunica, Mississippi; Kansas City and Boonville,
Missouri; Bettendorf, Davenport and Marquette, Iowa; and Las Vegas,
Nevada. The Company also owns a 57% interest in, and receives a
management fee for operating, a gaming facility in Black Hawk,
Colorado. All but two of these gaming facilities operate under the
name Isle of Capri, and feature its distinctive tropical island
theme. In addition, the Company wholly owns and operates a pari-
mutuel harness racing facility in Pompano Beach, Florida. In October
2002, the Company sold its properties in Tunica, Mississippi and Las
Vegas, Nevada

Isle of Capri (isleofcapricasinos.com) is a chain (15
properties?) of casinos in the southern and Midwestern
areas of the U.S. Generally speaking, they are boat
casinos. I believe one property is horse racing
rather than a casino.

I have only been to three of the properties (KC,
Booneville and Bossier City). I consider the customer
service above average. The buffets are not
spectacular (fewer choices) but if you're a
food-is-fuel type like me, you won't mind that. The
KC Isle was voted "Best Breakfast Buffet in Kansas
City" in 2003.

The VP is also considered to be only so-so. There
might be a few full pay machines (9/6 JOB, PE, AA in
KC and Booneville) but mostly short pay stuff. I
don't consider the Isle properties a good place to go
Big Game Hunting (looking for super-high
progressives). Management will not say what the
cashback is, but most people that calculate it come up
with a figure of around .25

I'm just giving you very general comments, check the
vpFREE and vphomepage databases for more details about
each property.

This company is big on continuing in-service training. For example, they brought in their marketing people from all their casinos all over the country and had me speak to them in a day-long seminar. I told them what customers loved and hated about casino promotions!!!!!

I'll echo what Jean said about customer service -- their people at
their Mississippi casinos are very nice and generally do a great job,
though the folks at their former Tunica property kinda fell down on the job
when they found out they were being sold and closed. (The former Isle in
Tunica is now the "East Tower" of Sam's Town. The casino there is closed; it is
lodging only.)

"The Isle" caters heavily to the slot crowd, and the low-end slot
crowd at that. Their table games in Tunica were nearly non-existent toward
the end, though they were hampered by the facility's small size.

Mail offers tend to be pretty good. When they sent me room comps,
they were usually good at any of their properties across the nation.

VP tends to vary. A place or two has AA, but at most the best game is
9/6 Jacks.
