Once again, what I said was: "Bottom line - nothing in life is free -
vpFREE is not free - it simply does not cost the members MONEY." That statement
followed up what I felt was an obvious point - everyone takes actions that
are in accordance with what motivates them. That motivation is not always a
cash payment. it can be some free publicity. It can be that warm fuzzy
feeling. It can be a lot of things.
You said: "there are often/usually costs associated with most things, but
free is free"
I submit that it is you who came to a conclusion that was not justified by
what you had said. Costs that are incurred for something that is not paid for
via cash yields something that is 'free' only in terms of there not being a
cash payment requirement. In the case of vpFREE, one must accept the terms
of service, the Yahoo ads, the professional members self-promotion, and perhaps
other 'costs.' Put another way, if 'free' is 'free' then please
resubscribe me to the vpFREE Locals group. Or is 'free' not really always 'free'?? As
you well know, the Locals group has ever-changing rules that must be abided
by to participate. So does vpFREE's main list - just much less restrictive
rules.
Remember, this all started in response to yet another post that basically
said "I want all the good info but I don't want to have to deal with anything
else to get it - just give me the good stuff and ban all the rest" - ignoring
what I believe to be reality (i.e. the 'good stuff' comes at a price, just not
a financial price).

IMO, there are often/usually costs associated with most
things, but free is free.
