Here is a site with a compilation of links to articles on the subject of
Federal Gambling Law.
It's pretty dry reading. There are laws which may be interpreted in such a
way as to deem an online gambling site to be illegal, especially if it accepts
wagers from people who reside in a state with no legal gambling of its own,
or no legal gambling of the type offered on the site.
One point made several times in these laws is that while the operators of
the sites might be breaking US federal law, the bettors are not. Or if they
technically are, it is unimportant, and they are not prosecuted.
