I have a friend in the gaming biz, though it's not the gambling
gaming biz, and he subscribes to a trade mag called Playmeter.
I always thumb through it looking at the new coin-op game titles that
are coming out, and I stumbled across a brief article about new
legislation that has just passed to curb online gambling in the US.
Yes, indeed, it is agains US law, and so far they've done little to
stop it.
Here's how they plan to!
They have passed legislation preventing the use of credit cards for
payment into and of course OUT of online casinos. Other means of
payment will also be blocked.
This does not include skill-based gaming sites, strictly online
casinos.
While the legislation has passed, it was not forseen to be put into
practice until after the new year.
It will be interesting to see how they plan to enforce this, however,
I'm sure than can put enough pressure on credit card companies to bar
payment to any US Citizen Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Amex holder
from an online casino.
I will try to borrow the issue of playmeter when he's done with it so
I can type in the article if it would be of interest to anyone.
Bottom line -- they will be trying to stop this now with "teeth"!
