Integrity of Video Poker In Ontario

Sorry I missed your discussion on this subject last week - I was in Reno (business - damn : >) .

The discussion seemed to be rife with opinions and anecdotal evidence, but very few facts.

Here are some facts I can relay to you:
  - I've played over half a million hands of Pickem poker - all fullpay.
  - 95% of this play was in Ontario.
  - 80% of it was at Woodbine, with other play at Flamborough, Hiawatha, Casino
Niagara, Gananogue, and the Ottawa racetrack - all Ontario facilites, all of which
are affiliated with the govenment in some way.
  - I record my results AS I GO - around Woodbine and Flamborough they call me the "stats man".
  - I track hands played, win/loss, all occurences of winning hands 3K or higher, number
of trips dealt (both playable and unplayable), etc.
  - these are logged into a spreadsheet at home.
  - the theoretical return with correct play (and I do play correctly) is 99.95%

  My results are:
   25-cent play - 100.02% return.
   50-cent play - 98.31% "
   $1.00 play - 100.5% "
Combined 25/50/1.00 results before cashback, etc 99.71%
  Combined " " after " 100.3%

$2.00, $5.00 play - too few hands to include statistically, BUT - up I'm $900 on these
due to a nice $2 quad.

I too have been unable to find any legislation guaranteeing me an honest play as in NV, NJ, MS - that's why I tracked it for myself - I'm as skeptical as they come.

I think the results pretty well speak for themselves.

  87% preset payback - I think not.

I agree completely. If they wanted to cheat why would they have machines with such crappy paytables as exist now.
You would put in machines with great paytables that people would shovel a lot of money into, and lose.
There are so many people playing bad games and short coin and no strategy in Ontario that cheating is not required to make money
for the casinos.

This is somewhat more believable than: "I know because a slot tech
told me".

However, and notwithstanding our willingness to believe, on faith,
that Ontario video poker machines are fair, it would be very
comforting if someone could point to a specific document requiring
that, in Ontario, a video poker machine that purports to present a
random deal of all the cards in the electronic deck, or in the case
of a draw to a dealt hand, the remaining cards, does so each and
every time a player hits the deal/draw command.

Recently, I called the OLGC to try and obtain that reassurance. I
was told that every machine is set to OLGC specifications, and that
those specifications require the machines to be honest. However,
when I requested a copy of the specifications, I was advised I would
have to get them from the casino. I was told they would have the
documentation, and that it would be available to me.

I attempted to do that at Rama last Friday, but got nowhere, except
to receive the suggestion that I contact their legal department. I
haven't done that yet.
