Usually okay if the machine is a name brand (IGT, Bally, Sigma, Williams, VLC etc.). If you have not heard of the brand then avoid them like the plague. The Wisconsin Indian Casinos (I live north of Chicago) use mostly IGT with some Bally and VLC. The casinos have honest games with generally very poor paytables. There is no shortage of suckers who will play any video poker game without looking at the paytable. The closest Indian casino to Chicago (Potowatamee in Milwaukee) thinks that 6-5 jacks is a great game. (They do have 20-5-4 joker which is about 96.2% as their best game. Their 25c games require 20 coins for 800-1 on the royal so you can see how bad it is. Oneida in Green Bay used to be very reasonable but not any more! One exception there though. See the VPfree database for that. If you cannot find name brand machines with decent paytables then play blackjack at a table. At least in Wisconsin these games are roughly as good as LV.
