Increase playtime or denomination for better promos ?

Howdy

I have seen my offers dwindle over time although my sessions have stayed
consistent. Yesterday I went to a casino promotional giveaway which had a
giveaway of a $25 gift card prize minimum concealed in a small box. I was entitled
to one but saw some leaving with as many as four boxes. I must admit I was
somewhat envious.

Of course it stands to reason these recipients are playing stingy machines
or are playing higher denominational money grabbers or are putting in long
hours or could even be a high roller at a table game.

I resist any temptation to go beyond .25 vp 99 percent of the time

The 64 thousand dollar question is would U change your playing habits to get
better "rewards"...or is it just not worth it?

Two of the rules by which I play...

1. If it stops being "fun", I stop playing. (<smile> I find that playing vp is almost always
fun and so I seldom stop according to my "no fun" rule)

2. I never exceed my bankroll. (I do compute and fund my bankroll very conservatively for
every trip that I take, and I have been "lucky" enough to have never exceeded it)

Therefore , with this philosophy, I will NEVER change my playing habits to earn better
"rewards". I play for fun, not for rewards, and the amount that I play depends on what my
bankroll allows me. The "rewards" are pure "gravy" in terms of my "entertainment" budget.

I second the motion. I play to win (and hope it is fun). Any
additional prizes, gifts, whatever; are lust like born said: gravy.

I frequently "play for comps".

I'll time my play to qualify for a gift promotion. And I'll play far
harder and longer when motivated by a gift or non-cash reward (but you
can bet it's something for which I'd otherwise be willing to part with
cash). Such occasions including playing 50% more coin-in through than
ususual when staying at Bellagio in order to qualify for full RFB
(back when the threshold was "do-able" for a $1 player -- and they had
$1 9/6).

As a rule, though, I won't jump denom for the sake of a comp. That
involves taking on a one-time downside risk that is seldom warranted.
Push from $.25 play to a $.50 play that's not supported by your
long-term bankroll and if you suffer an appreciable loss it's
effectively a permantent drain -- you can't look for $.25 play to
restore it merely through the consequence of the volatility that
drained it.

On the other hand, give me an extraordinary cash based promo -- one so
strong that it effectively counteracts much of the added risk of
jumping denom -- and I have, on occasion, done so. But those plays
weren't about comps (though the comps sweetened the deal).

Playing for the comp?
I remember those trips to Bally AC back when Bally actually was owned
by a company called Bally. In those days comps weren't really good
for vp as the table players were king. Anyway, I was a good quarter
player and the house would offer one night and "we'll watch your play.
Check with us tomorrow and we'll let you know if we can comp another
nite." I aquired books by Wong and Frome. I got software from Wong for
my 286 Packard Bell. Learned strategy. My play increased a lot. It
used to tick me off when my play increased by 5 times, yet I got the
same old story, "we'll have to watch your play." I liked Vegas, but
would do AC for random weekends. So I took an about face and talked to
the folks at Bally and took the position, "Give me the comp up front
or I go somewhere else." They gave me the comp. The crazy thing; AC
then had AC joker poker, way down on the list of crummy games. Most of
other games worse.

I Never had problem with comp rooms in Vegas. I home based out of
Frontier. The lady that ran the place had a nice deal for slot
players. No mystery comp system. I think you had to get 400 points in
a day to get a room. If I remember right, you got a point for every
$10 in action. So $4000 in play netted you a room. 4 hrs @ .25 or 1
hr @ $1 and you were in. They had good machines, good progressives and
good bj for table players. I still miss that place.

Bottom line.. I will never play for the comp. I would rather stay at a
non casino hotel than stay at a casino; playing for a comp room.

Just my thought.....Jeep

I would interpret that the person with 4 boxes played aprox. 4 times
more than you did. Most offers will tell you what the requirements
are for one or multiple gifts and if there is a limit. So they didnt
necesarily play a bad/inferior game, just more coin in and or time.

If that is your comfort level, then certainly that is where you should
stay. I have played much more coin in than usual on certain promos
(200 - 1500% more) and have gotten more than one laptop computers 'for
free', of course I calculated the value of the laptop (and we were in
need of one) and then did my best to play on other promo days in the
earning period, and sometimes you win while you are playing the promo
and other times it can be a very costly promo item. Playing more time
is much safer than uping the denom. to get the required points for the
promo.

If the casino that is shrinking your offers is not meeting you needs,
maybe it is time to start shopping around, In AC you have quite a few
choices. (as long as you like Harrahs, or Harrahs or Harrahs....)
