In Defense of Team Nerd

I know some of the persons to whom rockofjello333 refers as "Team
Nerd." He describes their play and behavior in a most unfavorable
light. It's entirely incorrect. I don't want to refute all his
nonsense on a point-by-point basis. It's enough to point out his
claim that his $940 loss "strongly suggests" that the Harrah's
conspiracy squad has put non-random video poker machines on the casino
floor as a "snare and a delusion." Hint: use heavy-duty aluminum foil
for your special hat. It can make all the difference.

If you go to play video poker with your friends, are you suddenly a team?

rockofjello333 made quite a big deal about persons where was using
their cell phones, which (gasp) had a lot of 702 numbers that they
were calling to coordinate where others were. From this, he concludes
that these persons must be "tag-teaming" the machines. Well,
rockofjello is from Las Vegas too, does his presence in Lake Tahoe
prove that he's a team player? I hate to bring truth and reason into
such a fascinating claim, but these calls actually related to dinner
in Reno. Some of those who were going to dinner were in Reno, some
were in Lake Tahoe, and others were being initiated into level 8 of
Team Nerd. (It's just like becoming a level 9 Mason, except you start
counting from 0, and you have to know how to use Yahoo! mail.)

So suppose for the sake of argument that the persons pejoritavely
grouped into "Team Nerd" are in fact sharing a bankroll. So what? Is
there something wrong with the practice? Is there some kind of
downside to averaging out all the wins and losses among a group of
players?

Only if you share a bankroll

Means you are team, BFD, why do you care what jellyrock thinks? or

me for that matter

I kind of wonder why I'm bothering to reply to this, but my laundry
won't be dry for 15 minutes, so I have the time.
Bruno, ol' buddy, if you'd actually READ my post(s), you'd
(possibly) understand that the anomalous results that raised my
suspicions were that NO ONE in my period of play---MYSELF or ANYONE
ELSE---hit anything until my deuces hit after ten hours of personal
play. During the time I was playing there were approximately sixty
man-hours of play. It would be expected that six sets of deuces
would hit, and between 1-2 royals.
I also stated that MY results were statistically insignificant. It
was only taken in context with the results of those playing around
me that those results aroused a SUSPICION, NOT a CONCLUSION. Your
snide remarks were in response to things I did not actually say.
People do that all the time on this board--misinterpret and misquote
someone, and then insult them for the views they did not actually
state.

If you go to play video poker with your friends, are you suddenly

a team?

It depends on your mutual objectives and agreements. Anyway, I never
said I objected to the EXISTENCE of this team (or ANY team), but
rather, their METHODS. Again, please go back and actually READ my
post (this time, not skimming over all the big words).

rockofjello333 made quite a big deal about persons where was using
their cell phones, which (gasp) had a lot of 702 numbers that they

that these persons must be "tag-teaming" the machines.

Not from this alone, but the fact that several times, someone showed
up and immediately "took over" a machine, while the original team
member went to have lunch or have sex with his virtual girlfriend or
whatever. The purpose seemed to be to ensure that these machines
were played as close to constantly as possible, given the team's
resources.

  Well,

rockofjello is from Las Vegas too, does his presence in Lake Tahoe
prove that he's a team player?

If a "team" can have one member, yes, I guess so.

Which explains why you haven't done so yet.

I have no doubt that the calls were simply for the purpose of
locating one another and making plans. I never said anything else. I
simply noted that this proved to me that the Team members I actually
saw were part of a larger group. It was only by eavesdropping later
that I heard machines and plays being discussed. Naturally, only
heving heard one side of a given conversation, I can't relate in
detail what was said.

So suppose for the sake of argument that the persons pejoritavely

what? Is there something wrong with the practice? Is there some

Not PER SE. This is the point that you're missing. It is the MANNER
and METHODS of Team Nerd that I object to. They have carelessly,
foolishly, and somewhat arrogantly destroyed several EXCELLENT
Northern Nevada and Las Vegas plays, when by exercising some modicum
of restraint, they could have made just as much money without
destroying those plays in the process.

Try my shoes!

Let me try to come up with some comparable kind of pithy imperative
to act as a closing salutation:
Sniff my goldfish!
Paint my petunias!
Toast my marshmallows!
Hmm...guess I can't approach the forceful mastery of the original...
