illuminating question in db

I have played a fair amount of 10/7 db after using and memorizing Bob
Dancer's excellent charts and practicing on the computer. Recently my
wife was watching me play at a casino; I was deal suited Q10 and
suited Axx. I held the Q10 as this was higher on the chart than 3
flush 1 high. She asked me why not hold Axx, since suited Q10x was
better than Q10 and how did Axx differ from Q10? Never having studied
the theory of the game, I was at a loss to explain.

After returning home and comparing the hands on a vp program, I found
out that there is no difference between Q10x and Axx; while it is
always correct to hold Q10x when dealt that (as the chart states),
Q10 with no third card in the suit is a better hand (higher EV). This
explains why it is correct to hold the Q10. On reflection this is
logical since suited Q10 alone is better than unsuited A-Q in JOB (a
game I understand the theory), but hold the A-Q, if there is a flush
penalty with the Q10.

Anyway, I now find it is more fun playing the game understanding
something of the theory, rather than just making the correct holds.
