IGT using new printing technology

Interesting article - if I'm reading this correctly, certain IGT machines will be able to offer "promotional coupons" right from individual games, enabling them to offer players incentives for playing their machines. This could be really good for us.

Does anyone know any of the specifics?

Actually, it has nothing to do with IGT machines per se. This will be
a feature of ACRES, a tracking system used by some gaming companies.

Thanks for the response - however, I'm confused. Can you please expand on your response? If they're talking about a printer that's integrated into the TITO functionality on some IGT machines, then what's the relationship with ACRES and what would the effect be on players playing non-IGT machines?

Perhaps it's creative thinking on my part, but this piece made me think that using this technology, that IGT could try to enhance (or preserve) market share by using the TITO printer to dispense coupons when certain hands are hit. Seriously, how cool would it be if when you hit a royal, a coupon popped out of the TITO machine and said something like, "IGT and this casino wants to congratulate you on winning your jackpot! Please redeem this coupon to enjoy a free steak dinner with our complements"? A feature like this would appeal to lots of folks - especially ploppies who don't know (or care) if a pay schedule is short.

Acres Gaming is owned 100% by IGT. Look at http://www.acresgaming.com/

Laine,

You are right, I made the assumption that the coupons would be tied
to the individual player. That would require using ACRES. Now I'm
confused because I understand that the various TITO systems are
proprietary although IGT has a significant market share in TITO. But
the article reads like the new printers are integrated into the box,
not a separate bit of hardware that the casino can obtain from
various sources.

The article clearly doesn't give enough information as to the systems
involved and the source of coupon information.

Your idea is very creative and fun, but the TITO system doesn't know
what hand (or slot result) shows on the machine. And the platform
they're talking about is slots. In any case, no one is going to
market fully integrated software in the foreseeable future so I doubt
we'll see the kind of coupon you're visualizing. Or maybe we'll see
it next month.

Thanks Bill; I guess you're right - we'll see what happens. Also, I wasn't thinking that the TITO system would know the slot (or VP) result; I was thinking that it would use what I like to call "skee ball" technology. You know, when a certain payout is reached, the ticket spews forth. Or, put another way, I was invisioning something like the ancillary printer at the supermarket -- the one that prints out coupons based on your purchases. Sometimes you get coupons for competing products, and sometimes you get coupons for dollars off your next order.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens. (As you may be able to guess, I love technology, and my work keeps me up-to-date on advancements...)
