I had the opposite experience last week. I cashed a check at the GN cashier
and when I counted my money I was $100 short. The teller (?) had counted out
my $$$ as my cell phone rang and I was telling the caller I'd call right
back. I did not like that the teller had not waited the ten seconds for me to get
off the phone before she sped-counted my money, but my husband said he watched
and it was correct and we moved away from the cage. But I always count my
money, so we had not gotten very far and immediately I went back to the teller
and said I was $100 short. She said she would call her supervisor and
survelliance, which she did. After about 10-15 minutes, she told us she would be back,
that survelliance (sp?) called her in to watch the tape.
That took about 10-15 more minutes. Eventually she came back with her
supervisor and they said indeed she had shorted me (which I already knew),
apoligised, and paid me. The teller told me I had saved her a suspension as your email
explained.
While I'd like to think this is a legitimate mistake, I cannot help but
wonder how hard it would have been for the teller to make her count correct by
removing extra $$$???.
I don't think it is worth the risk of suspension for $100, but if you see
that most people do not recount their money at the teller cage…
So, please someone reassure me it is far too difficult to palm money out of
the teller drawer and restore my faith…
